Friday

Things are not going well at Grantchester as the curate has been accused of Gross Indecency and been arrested. Meanwhile, the perpetrator of a murder, disguised as suicide, was tracked down and also apprehended. The series is set in the sixties so moral values are still very strict regarding homosexuality; consenting relationships are yet to come. Continuing the detective theme, the next viewing choice was Luther who was dealing with the usual gruesome murders with a flavour of action and the return of a friend. The evening concluded with some longer YouTube videos about useful topics after a Christmas episode of Fresh Fields.

I was awake good and early, well before the alarm, mostly because Ms Fidget Bum was carrying out her toilet adjacent to the now unused, gas fire which makes a racket each time it’s struck by her paw. I gave up just before the alarm so we were walking across the field around ten-to-six. Still comparatively late especially as the sun is rising that little bit earlier each morning. Just as things get sensible, the clocks will go forward once more.

The second walk was with Brian and his Vizsla who’d finally managed to get out of bed. I was emptying the recycling crate into the bottle bank as they arrived. Brian was supposedly leaving today but will now stay until after the weekend so he says.

We did lots of ball-throwing, losing then finding the balls as usual whilst discovering another. They wore each other out so we returned to base.

I rode to Paleochora for bread but didn’t need anything for the DDs as I had stocks. I popped into the post office to collect an Amazon package for the Wrights. It appears that any package destined for Grammeno is automatically notified to my Viber messenger account. One day, there may even be something for me!

There was another wash to put in for the same couple as yesterday. This time it was the whites. I should imagine they will be leaving soon as their thirty days are coming to an end.

I delivered bread then went back to feed the dogs and put on the DDs. There had been a complication with the inverter earlier so, for some reason, the fan is running full-tilt. I’ll give it a restart early tomorrow morning.

There were two departures, the Swiss singles who stayed four nights and kindly left 30€ for the animal fund. All donations gratefully accepted. I didn’t ask where they are going next but they stayed twice as long as intended.

With the DDs in the Pot, I sat down with a cup of tea in the sunshine. There was little left of the morning due to the extended walk, the post office, washing machine and departures. Hardly surprising I may have momentarily drifted off at some point. We need to get up earlier as it shortens the mornings. Maybe not 04:15 as it’s still too dark for too long.

Bona came in the afternoon bearing produce and promises tomatoes next time. She told me she missed her dental appointment as she fell asleep having got ready to go. She has another appointment next week. She’s taken to wearing a mask to hide her missing teeth.

I processed the DDs and fed the dogs earlier as I’d forgotten about emptying my bog which was very full. I’ve come to the conclusion it’s a much better idea to make up a large brick of coconut husk as it’s so much easier than doing a small amount each time it’s required. I now have a fresh, clean and empty bog to fill up.

I’m still sitting outside at 18:10 although it’s very humid and getting decidedly cold. The day has been another warm and sunny one but this will change as wind and rain are forecast. Tomorrow is forecast to be cloudy but dry and Sunday cold, wet and windy. My favourite!

Exactly the same temperature as yesterday with plenty of sunshine but no wind.
The Christmas decoration video recorded by Georgia which shows all the hard work put in by the ladies, especially Lucia who worked super-hard to make it a success.
