Wodan’s Day

Following the antics of Martin Shaw as Judge John Deed once more as he pushes every legal limit whilst attracting a number of women. I can’t help liking the character as well as the way the part is played by Shaw. Further viewing included Dangerfield and then YouTube, just for a change.

Morning arrived bright, with a full moon, but chilly with some wind. Having the moon at the start of the walk was very useful, especially when crossing the rocks. The boat used for transporting [hundreds] of migrants was dragged up Alonáki Beach near to the road. From the size and construction of the boat, I cannot see it could have transported many migrants.

During the second walk we bumped into Nina and the Bears but only on the beach as we were going home. She said the mechanic they were supposed to see yesterday had forgotten their appointment which has been remade for next week. A good luck with that!

I went to collect only one loaf of bread and then visit the Perrakis hardware store as yesterday’s fence repairs almost depleted my stock of cable ties. I also needed some wire tensioners to tighten the wires placed about two-thirds down the fence to discourage the bottom of the shading material from flipping over the top of the fence and getting snagged. This happens when the wind is strong and from a certain direction. Up until now, there has been a length of metal pipe on the west flank which is a terrible waste of useful materials.

The morning was wonderfully sunny almost causing me to part with some clothing, but not quite. There was a cold northeasterly wind which certainly had plenty of bite. I waited until afternoon before installing the wire tensioners and chucking the pruned branches over the fence. The carobs are also on my list for a prune too. Today was a good moment as Toni was probably out with olive; careless talk and all that.

Other excitements included some washing for Lucia who now has my heated pad for her neck as Maria managed to return it last light. Maria told me she’d not been well. The penalty for working with children.

I met the father of the guy who arrived yesterday on his way from the sea to the showers. He was wearing only swimming trunks and reminded me a little of Saga and Johannes and their water activities in virtually all weather conditions last winter. For the Finns, the weather here is like a summer’s day.

I received a phone call from the nice post office counter technician regarding a package to collect for the Wrights who’ve been shopping at Amazon again. It seems I now receive personal phone calls for anything destined for Grammeno.

I had intended looking into the inverter today but the sun was shining so it seemed a shame to waste the ‘free’ energy. I understand it’s important to replace the fans with the correct type of fan or it will not automatically vary with load. At present, the fans are running at full tilt. The inverter is working under difficult conditions bearing in mind the distance from the sea, the year-round dust and summer heat. That the fans have made it this far is very encouraging. The electronics must struggle during the summer heat.

Warmer than yesterday but with a biting, cold wind. Tomorrow should be about the same.
