Tiw’s Day

Judge Deed was trying an interesting liability case whilst juggling his love life and dealing with his wayward daughter and rescued dog. I spent the remainder of the night on YouTube but still refuse to join. I went to bed around ten and was soon asleep.

The familiar sound of rain on the roof reminded me the forecast may not be absolutely reliable or even vaguely so at times. I’d decided that we’d go out later anyway as it was cold and windy. It was after seven when we emerged to a soggy morning with a cold wind but remarkably few clouds.

We started off by walking to Azzuro and back then investigated the Promontory with the ball and thrower. We managed the rocks as well as throwing lots of balls for the girls.

After restarting the boiler, I went to Paleochora for bread and groceries as it’s DDs tomorrow and possibly raining. It was cold and the wind was against me. To further enhance my delight it started to rain and then got harder so I hastened to the little Kantina in the bay the other side of the rockfall. There I sheltered until the rain subsided leaving my bike in the main café area out of the rain. A man arrived with a bottle of milk, presumably for the cats. The rain had stopped so I continued, whereupon it started raining again so I hastened even more to Paleochora getting colder and wetter. I visited the post office to pick up two packages. One gigantic, containing a couple of small circuit boards which must have walked from China. The other was the electrical bits ordered from a company in Greece which took a very long time to arrive. Even taking into account the holiday season. The items are good quality and reasonably priced.

My next stop was the bakers then Petrakis. I did my shop to discover it was raining as I was about to leave. I bemoaned the state of the weather to the nice checkout ladies saying it wouldn’t be fun riding back to Grammeno in a bike. A very considerate customer spontaneously offered me a lift but said she wouldn’t be able to transport my bike. I thanked her and said I’d wait until it cleared.

After a few minutes loitering in the store, I packed the purchases in my bike bag and set off in the sunshine. It wasn’t all roses as there were still raindrops in the wind so I pulled out all of the stops to get back as quickly as possible. The next downpour is invariably just around the corner anyway.

I dropped bread to Lucia and to the Brügmanns who’d decided to take up my offer of a fan heater of which I have two and use none. Their’s is only 500W intended for under a desk or in a tent. I lent them a heater which will do 600, 900 or 1,500W which is 3X their heater. I also connected Joyce to the electricity as she had returned and parked up in the road opposite the sliding gate, near to Lucia. I eventually got back for a cup of tea and a sit down in the sunshine.

Today was similar to yesterday but possibly sunnier at times. It was quite windy and very cold too. I’m not sorry to see the back of it.

I managed to complete my tax form using Lucia’s computer for anonymity as well as a VPN to put myself in UK to avoid complications. I played with my electrical bits whilst it was sunny but the tax form had priority. Later, I fixed up Lucia’s laptop and took it to her so she could try watching Call The Midwife. The volume on her laptop is very low so she could do with some external speakers. She’s a technophobe so glazes over as soon as you mention anything technical. I also managed to get her van heating system to work as she’d found it too complicated to use. There are plenty of features but it can be set up to be used quite easily. It’s a ducted diesel heater so at least you get warm feet!

The dogs were waiting impatiently for their supper and have not really had a satisfactory walk for a couple of days. Nor are they likely to as tomorrow is supposed to be wet too. Only at the end of the week does the situation start to improve. The weather is normal for the time of the year so to be expected [albeit annoyingly frustrating].

The van was around 12ºC when we came in a while ago however the AC is gradually making things warmer. I think we’ve made it as far as 18ºC so far which is not bad considering the draughtiness.

Yesterday was warmer, as today has been very windy at times. There have also been quite a few showers, some heavy. The forecast says to expect 22mm of rain tonight which, if actual, will delight the tent-dwellers I’m sure.
