Azzuro And Beyond!

Joe 90 was big into espionage to help a musician agent escape from a country, presumably Russia judging by the accents, by taking his place mid-recital. This gave the pianist agent time to reach the border before anyone discovered it was Joe playing in his stead. There were some gigantic holes in the plot but Joe is always amusing. Next it was back to the 60’s with HeartBeat the theme being an ‘abducted’ boy and a polio outbreak. There was also a scene of an Iron Lung, the likes of which have not been seen in years. The remainder of the evening was taken up with useful YouTube videos.

I was a little slow getting out of bed so it seemed incredibly light when we crossed the rocks for the second time. Today, we made it to Azzuro although my feet were a little wet when I went back there with the girls and Skinny later. The river is still quite wide although the flow has decreased considerably. It’s a little too wide where it joins the sea hence the damp feet. I crossed further up on the first visit so my feet remained dry.

The sky was clear so Venus was easily visible early on. Mars and Uranus were also rising but too close to dawn and sunrise to be visible. The Red Planet against a red/orange sky just before sunrise, I think not. There were a number of bright stars which I was able to recognise thanks to the Stellarium app which I put on my phone a while ago. I have another stargazing app which is very detailed but I don’t find it easy to use or see without glasses which I don’t wear whilst out with the dogs, especially at night. Yes, I could carry my glasses but my pockets are already stuffed with two SportDog remotes, a small pot of doggy biscuits, a torch and keys etc. Anyway, the Stellarium app is very simple and clear and also does everything I want it to without purchasing the Pro version for a one-off £20.

I went to Anatoli for bread transporting only one loaf for Lucia to dissect. There followed a discussion with Mickey about Malapropisms to expand his understanding of the English language. I finally fed the dogs and made some tea for myself.

It was another warm and sunny day so I was down to just shorts whilst sitting in my chair directly in the sun. The eastern screen does a good job at keeping out the wind. I fell asleep after my second cup of tea.

Later, Bona and Noel came to the camping to drink Hell. Bona had a day off from the greenhouses and I think she did some cleaning but I left her drinking Hell with Noel who was off school on some nefarious pretext. Bona tells me she shall soon have her new front teeth as she’s going for a fitting tomorrow afternoon. Maybe next week!

I wandered to the reception to remove the condensation from the entrance camera which tends to take on water during heavy rain. I’ve yet to discover how the water gets in as the O ring at the lens end appears sound. I also realigned the driveway camera as it appeared to have drooped a little.

I received a phone call from Delino restaurant to tell me they’d picked up my package of bike bits from Anatoli by accident. The UPS delivery chap called earlier to ask where the camping was and if he could leave it somewhere in Paleochora. I said I’d collect from Anatoli in the morning. Somehow, the chaps from Delino were given the package which they transported to the restaurant. It was only then they realised it was for me so used the number on the address label to contact me. I can now change my gears, shifter and derailleur but will wait until the tyre gloop arrives so that I can do everything in one go. The gears have not worked properly for a while but that’s not too much of a problem when you have a big motor in the wheel!

I dismantled a broken Sonoff wireless meter/switch board as I’ve decided the status lights could do with being visible on all the boxes around the camping. I initially used the Sonoff waterproof boxes which have a transparent lid through which the status lights can be seen. These boxes come from China and are quite expensive for what they are. For 5€ I can buy an ordinary junction box but these don’t have a clear front or cable glands. The glands prevent water running down the cable and inside the box as I discovered when one board was fried due to moisture entering the box. It just so happens some of the cables left over from a previous project will come in handy. By cutting the LEDs I can attach the cables so the LEDs are free of the board. Just a matter of drilling suitable holes in the lid and gluing the LEDs there.

I have yet to complete the three outlet box I intend to put down by the lamp pole as that is always a problem. Now is a good time as there are no vans there at present just the Spanish tents which take little power and are on another circuit anyway. I need to sort out some electrical stuff whilst it’s not raining, cold or windy.

It’s five-thirty and the sun will set in twenty minutes. The siblings are sparring on the decking with the others looking on. I will leave them out for a while so they can wear each other out and not drive me round the bend early in the morning. Oskar is trying his best with Sasha but needs some yellow pages as well as other missing equipment. Full marks for effort though!

With a high of 19.6ºC it was warmer than yesterday. It was sunny but a little windy at times. Tomorrow and Wednesday are forecast to have similar weather but Thursday night may develop thunderstorms and the possibility of a little rain. Early days yet.
