Happy Leap Year!

My evening entertainment was with Martin Shaw as Judge John Deed pulling the wool over the eyes of those trying to bring him down and moulding the law to bring the right results.

The early walk terminated at the river but was otherwise unremarkable other than all of the big puddles which had dried up. The girls came out with Skinny onto the Promontory to play with the ball which was a challenge as it was windy.

I’d decided to go to Anatoli in Kountoura but found myself turning right at the gate and heading towards Paleochora. The wind was generally easterly and some parts were blowier than others. Work had commenced at the rockfall as they are busily removing the debris at the bottom of the face.

Due to the windiness, I decided a trip over Panorama might be a little too much so headed straight to Anatoli and then to Petrakis. I knew it would be windy and probably rainy the following couple of days so stocked up as the cupboards were a little bare and there are DDs to prepare on Saturday, another potentially inclement day. My return to the camping was effortless and speedy as the wind was now behind me. I also didn’t stop for the rockfall even though the cars were waiting nicely. The guy controlling the traffic had his back to me so I slipped by on the cycle path unobserved.

I fed dogs, made tea and then collected money from the Brügmanns who were getting ready to leave. My next visit was to the Dutch couple who are leaving on Friday. They needed to know the bill to extract the cash from the ATM which, at present, seems only to have 20€ notes as I discovered when I received the cash from the Brügmanns. 50+ 20€ notes to count.

I returned to the dogs to enjoy some of the sunny intervals, count the money as it’s month’s end and generally catch up with some small jobs. There have not been many arrivals or departures so the month’s end is quite straightforward.

The day became windier as it went on. Nina and Korel moved to the pitch next to the bar so I went down to connect their electricity as the socket is hidden at the rear of the bar area. The ones in the restaurant no longer work and had become unreliable anyway. I suppose I could change them but no one seems that interested.

It was time to feed the animals so I did the cats first and then the dogs. There was no rain. Just wind. With the animals fed, I was about to organise some food and settle down for the evening when I received a call from Toni about customers waiting at reception. It wasn’t yet dark so I can’t justifiably complain.

The customers were Americans who live in an off-grid house in the backend and beyond of nowhere. They live a simple life but occasionally go travelling and insisted they’re not tourists. They take the trouble to speak to people and visit far-flung locations of interest. They have a rental motorhome as the small camper van they’d requested wasn’t available. We got chatting and time slipped by. They were interesting people and we shared may common beliefs.

The dogs were quiet when I eventually got back having put the Americans into one of the bays and given them a quick tour of the facilities. They’d not surfaced when I passed earlier…

It was late so I’d lost the will to blog and just wanted to make something to eat and fall asleep in front of the box. I was successful!

The day was windy but also quite sunny at times. The forecast is for strong winds and rain during the night.
