Hottest Day

I didn’t realise I’d not posted yesterday’s blog until right now. I was tired so hardly surprising I was losing the will.

I watched a video about the various weapons used in the Russia-Ukraine war. It seemed they are all designed to kill as many people as possible one way or another. From a purely technical standpoint, it was interesting. The other thing I watched was about how the Ukrainians have managed to deplete Russia’s Black Sea Fleet without a navy of their own. It was mostly done using drones or ballistic weapons. Many large powers must be asking themselves questions about how to protect huge ships, especially massive aircraft carriers, from seaborne drone attacks. I fell asleep and went to bed as I saw the last arrival of the day making their way through the barrier. Why they brought their car into the camping as their cabin was only meters away from the car park.

It was an almost still morning with a distinct lack of moon as the New Moon is tomorrow. We set off a little later as I was slow to get going but it was a pleasant walk. Starry sky and the Milky Way to boot.

There was only one walk for all the dogs as I couldn’t be bothered going back to the camping and we ended up with Nina and the bears. Nina is organising a visit by a group of Slovenians so needed to get back to resume her duty as tour guide.

I went back, put the boys in and rode to Paleochora for bread as I ate most of yesterday’s loaf. To my surprise, Petrakis was open. The first Sunday other than the holidays where they open Sunday and not the holiday.

I came back to feed the dogs and say goodbye to Jamie who accompanied his mummy to Chania so she could catch the plane back to UK. He spent time with the dogs but eventually left to stop his mum getting too wound up about travelling.

I was pleased to do very little once I’d wandered around the camping collecting money from the tent dwellers from last night. They fly home tomorrow so are returning to Chania. The French woman with the two adolescent children was having breakfast and they will stay another night. They walked to Elafonissi from Krios as per my suggestion. Tomorrow they plan to go to Agia Irini to walk the gorge there. Shorter than the Samaria but open.

I collected more money and greeted two arrivals from Germany. A couple who have a van now in bay 3 and a single woman with a van in bay 5. I offered them both spaces nearer the sea but it’s going to be a little windy for a day or so.

The DDs needed processing but now the dogs are fed and sleeping soundly. The temperature made it to over 28ºC in the van today as I reset the min-max thermometer.

The Spanish have actually left and did a pretty fair job of cleaning up after themselves. They’re going back to Spain and then to Crete.

My last winter departee says he will leave at the end of the month…

The hottest day of the year so far but not yet 30ºC. Plenty of sunshine but became windy later.
