Still Windy

The main theme of Judge John Deed was that of consent and the ethics of saving lives against the will of the consented. A fifteen-year-old boy with a fatal heart condition was refusing a transplant as he did not wish to spend the rest of his life taking drugs which were tested on animals. There was an injunction which prevented the hospital from performing the operation and Deed was to decide if it should be lifted. The boy’s lawyer was a close colleague of Deed who agreed that the boy was competent to decide his own future even though he was only a few days from his sixteenth birthday where his decision would be legally binding. The mother wished him to have the operation however the father appeared to remain silent on the matter.

Deed went to test the boy who probably had about three weeks before his heart gave out causing his death. The boy quickly persuaded Deed that he was competent to decide however, after much deliberation, Deed agreed to lift the injunction. The hospital prepared for the operation and, even though the boy protested until the last, the procedure took place. Other plot threads included an animal rights protestor on hunger strike and Deed’s daughter’s part in the animal rights movement. I watched some other stuff and fell asleep but was in bed quite early.

The wind kept blowing but the morning was calmer than I expected. The reality seems different from the forecast. It was chilly as we crossed the rocks and walked to Azzuro but it was getting lighter as we were a little later out. Skinny found a bone so decided to stay behind to chew on it so I took just the girls. Earlier, Maya had absented herself but we found her waiting as we came back from the first walk.

I rode to the tobacconist for Bona and then Anatoli for some bread. The sky was a little grey but there was no rain. It still felt cold although it wasn’t that windy.

Once back, I quickly fed the dogs as I needed to get on with the Exchange certificate problem. With the correct information it was fairly easy to resolve so then I could relax.

Bona came to do lots of ironing so I propped her up with some Hell and her cigars which she breaks up and rolls into cigarettes. I took her all of the laundry I’d washed the day before then I discovered I’d forgotten to include T3 in the wash. She says she will prioritise the cabins tomorrow but we only have one in use now that Jamie and his mother have left.

The afternoon was even windier, a little like yesterday but I developed a few blank spots then watched a YouTube video on OTAN or NATO depending on your nationality. The afternoon became generally leisurely.

I had a brief telephone conversation with a nice, Greek lady who wants so come to Grammeno in August when the rest of the world is here. She called a couple of times yesterday evening as I’d forgotten to put my phone on Do Not Disturb mode.

It’s nearly half-six so I’d better consider feeding the dogs.

Pretty poppies. There are lots of wild flowers growing in the field although the marigolds are looking a little passé now.

A German man called me wishing to leave his motorhome on the camping all year around. I tried to persuade them that he was welcome to come to stay in it all winter but we had little interest in having it here all year round.

Quite a pleasant and relaxing day once the server certificate problem had been dispatched.

Warmer than yesterday but just as windy. The wind dropped during the night so the morning started calm. Tomorrow should be warmer and sunnier with less wind.
