Bastille Day

Maya didn’t want to come in last night so I compromised and left her out with her collar on. She survived until about four then ushered in the morning with some woofing. I stopped her with the collar as she’s worked out how this comes about now. We were up and out soon after.

I’m not sure why I took a t-shirt with me as I carried it so far before leaving it on a rock for collection later. There was a little wind which helped and it was good to feel the water on ones feet.

The lady from yesterday was up early again but this time went swimming. We diverted to the top of the beach to avoid any further encounters. A group of maggots were found above the Small Beach but the dogs ignored them as I diverted them away.

A woman was collecting salt as I went over the rocks with the girls. Isabella headed over to see her, I called her back but the woman seemed to be happy for her to come to her. I said that Kostas was collecting and going home as we arrived at 04:40.

We’d found and then lost Luis who appears to now have a poorly paw. He got two dunkings which wasn’t too much of a hardship considering how warm it was.

I waited until around nine before riding to Paleochora. My bike thermometer registered 36ºC as I found a man and his dog sheltering under some trees. Man and dog walk daily to Paleochora however today the man had the good sense not to bother. I visited Petrakis and returned via the sea where I bathed. Others were there too.

I made the DDs before feeding them and making tea for myself. It was now approaching 40ºC so I slumped into my chair where I spent the next few hours performing various IT tasks at H-H. To add to the confusion, the remaining W7 till decided to dump the user profile and then just create temporary ones. The day passed by becoming gradually warmer maxing out at exactly 40ºC. Not the hottest I’ve experienced but hot enough considering tomorrow is forecast to be warmer still. I believe temperatures have be higher particularly in Italy although the Parthenon was closed for several hours during the hottest part of the day. Stories of tourists collapsing and a worker dying due to excessive heat. Unremitting heat at night is also a factor as the body has no time to recover when nighttime temperatures are still 30ºC. I can see that being the case today. As I write, the sun is heading towards the other side of the building whereupon I may leap to my feet to process the DDs. Their rice is cooked and in the pot.

There has been no time to progress my air conditioner today although a quick look early on showed the vacuum had escaped during the night. I don’t know from where it escaped so will need to do a nitrogen pressure test to find any leak. I wrote to a guy who was here as a customer earlier in the season who was bold enough to give me his business card. I’ve asked him where I might acquire test gas but expect, like everyone else, he’s too busy installing and repairing systems to reply.

Today’s minimum was 30,2ºC at 06:36 and the maximum exactly 40ºC at 14:56, so the hottest day of the year. However, the hottest temperature recorded by me in the past nine years is 44.2ºC on 1 July 2017. The predicted temperature for today was 36ºC and tomorrow is 38ºC. Based on today’s temperature, it’s likely to be over 40ºC tomorrow.
