Season’s End

It looks as though the tourist season is very much coming to its end.

The last ‘guests’ left the camping yesterday either heading for home or for other parts of the island. In the afternoon we enjoyed an extended lunch attended by the camping personnel and Alex and I, ‘resident guests’ all 6 of us including Adi’s girlfriend, a German from Köln.

The sun is losing its strength as the days pass although there appears to be no sign of rain. It seems strange to be able to leave things outside for days on end knowing that they will remain dry.
Massive activity on the adjacent building site which appears to have made little progress since Edward and I came here in September 2011. There are now 4 small dwellings in. Greek style and they are now building parapets at roof level. What is more surprising is that this is Saturday and they were on site just before 8am. Indeed I exchanged a cheery wave and a quick Καλή Μάιρα with the mortar technicians as they prepared to start work.
Boris is looking anxiously towards the camping: probably eying one of the cats who take pleasure in toying with him. They understand that he is tied up so they torment him by casually wandering around well out of his range or curling up on a chair and going to sleep. I left Dave tied up under the van, laying in the sun, but I expect it has now moved round leaving him in the shade. I’d better go to his rescue. Dave is now happily on the beach with Boris and I. He’s attached to another sun lounger and laying under it.
Looking around the bay, I can see only one other person on the beach and I think that is Alex although he’s too far to be absolutely sure. As you may realise, it’s not exactly crowded here despite it being Saturday morning, sunny and warm. I think it’s safe to conclude that the tourist season is drawing to a close.
The other evening as we went for our walk, we encountered a couple of quite young dogs apparently abandoned by the bar situated at the end of the beach. The bar has been rarely open since my arrival, but now that the umbrellas and loungers have been put away, the bar is all locked up until next year. These dogs were playing in the sun with no owner in sight. Later, I went back and left them some food and water. They were there in the morning but gone when I went back later.
