The dreaded chairs have gone

I may have mentioned that there were loads of pallet chairs which have been stacked up in the storeroom for years. Some of them were removed to form steps for the enhanced larger cabins, others gradually melted away for other projects. Now, finally, there are no chairs left, just a big gap where the stacks used to be. This means that the cats have no bed but I’ll track down their blanket and find them a new location. I’m certain it won’t be long before the empty space is taken up other worthless clutter but getting rid of the chairs is a major step forward.

It was another hot night requiring a fan on in order to be comfortable in bed. The temperature was just under 28℃ until it was time to get up for the Early Walk. There was a strong northerly breeze again so walking was reasonably enjoyable. We spotted a young lad with a sleeping mat and sleeping bag out on the Promontory as we were on the return leg last night. He was presumably enjoying a night out camping with his dad. I remembered the location and could see by the way Skinny was behaving that there was someone not far away this morning but he didn’t consider them a threat. I kept Charlie on the lead until I let them all go before walking over the rocks at the end. There was a Greek car parked on Alonáki Beach with bicycles strapped to the back. The occupants were making use of the sun loungers on the beach and had their dog with them. He was quite vocal as we approached but I managed to suppress the barking from my lot as we passed. I was better prepared on the return journey.

From what I can see from the recordings, Luis was reasonably quiet whilst Skinny and I went for our weekday excursion to Kountoura. The road was dry so I suspect the leak has been repaired. There were lots of cars in the car parks and out by the road. The camping is very busy as we head towards the Holiday on Thursday. I expect next weekend will also be busy and then it should slowly decline until the end of the month.

One of my parcels contained plastic shrink tubing to repair my laptop cable. I got on with this first thing so have extended the life of my laptop charger. The laptop and charger are five years old and the plastic insulation of the low voltage lead between the laptop and charger has been destroyed by the sun. Most of the plastic insulation had simply fallen off revealing the wire underneath. I slid some shrink tube over the bare wire having cut the connection to the charger. Using a heat gun, I shrank the tube and remade the joint to the charger. The charger and cable should survive a little longer now. The charger, specifically the cable and its connectors is a weak point which has stimulated the market for after-sales of replacements. The original Apple charger comes in around £50 so I felt it was worth trying to get some more life from it as the electrics are fine just the lead is dodgy.

Some barking from Oskar earlier announced the arrival of newcomers who have erected their tent on the furthest boundary of Janne and Erica’s pitch next door. There has been a tent next to their caravan for some while and, as for Sascha’s caravan, he’d be lucky to make it to his door! By the time he arrives next week, there should be fewer tents. I should imagine Sascha will be moving his caravan sooner rather than later.

There were a couple of cars on my northern border earlier. They were taking down their tents and packing away. I’ve not walked round that way recently but I should imagine they have been replaced by others.

There were more power outages this morning and the electricians were again on-site working on the generator on the roof. Since then, there have been no further outages so it might appear that the offending switch has been replaced and Maria or side-kick no longer have to rush to flip up the switch each time it trips.

It’s all ominously quiet around me so it’s still too hot to contemplate the Evening Walk. Skinny stuck his head above the parapet a while ago but has since retired to his daytime position under the decking.

The position of the sun is changing as now I have it in my eyes as I sit in my chair first thing in the morning and it’s further to the south in the afternoon.

I have received a message from the UK company supplying my solar panels and inverter. They tell me they have given my phone number to the delivery company so I may receive my delivery tomorrow or the next day or next week/month/year*. The ship carrying the batteries from China should be well on its way too.

The Evening Walk finished as dusk was falling. We were late out as I was on the phone to Matthew until 20:00. We know there will be plenty of FreeLoaders in the morning as we have seen at least three encampments and met a couple on the way back. We’ll have to dodge all the sleepers and do our best.

The power is still periodically cutting out although not to the extent of yesterday. It seems the problem wasn’t fixed or no one came to fix it.
