George!

The night seemed a little short because it was quite late once I got to bed. I was writing my blog much later as I’d been invited out and then we walked the dogs so I was falling asleep at my keyboard. Usually, I write my blog before going out for the Evening Walk and before I eat. Yesterday was the reverse which is not a good combination.

Suffice to say, the girls kept up well but then they had Elias there with them to keep them going. The walk took longer than usual and started later so it was around midnight when I retired to my boudoir. This was exacerbated by deciding to knock up some last-minute dough, as one does at 23:15 ish.

It was strange not having loads of cats around in the morning. Even George, who is habitually waiting for food on the fence, was not present. I fed my two then disappeared with the dogs.

It seemed lighter due to the clear sky but it was much fresher than the previous day so I was back into a thin and think fleece again. The walk was unremarkable and fairly rapid as I wanted to get back in the hope of capturing George before the cats were brought back.

I took the opportunity to ride off to Krios and was overtaken by a police pickup along the road. They would be around on the only day I’d chosen to put my mask in the washing machine and hadn’t filled in a movement declaration. I wanted to check that Gregory would be coming at 11:00 and found him and his dogs approaching Krios Beach. He announced that he’d decided not to go ahead with the neutering and so would not be turning up as agreed. I was somewhat disappointed by this news since this was the second time I’d arranged this for him, however the first fell victim of the lockdown. I could see the police pickup parked at Krios Beach so immediately turned around and headed back to the camping. I had washing to take out of the machine and a cat to try to catch. I understood that the police rarely ventured even to Kountoura and certainly not Krios. I think I’ll be giving Krios a miss until the lockdown restrictions are removed.

One problem with catching George was that all of the cat boxes were being used. However, the girls cornered George in the customer kitchen until Anastasia appeared with all the other cats. They had spent the night at Kalamos at the PAWS clinic. We unloaded and released the cats then went to try to capture George who was frustrated with being confined to the kitchen. One of the girls put some sausage at the back of the box and eventually, and very cautiously, George went inside the box so I could lock the door behind him. Ironically, he was in the same box which had been only recently occupied by his arch-rival, The Villain.

Anastasia took him off to Kalamos saying he’d be returned later in the day or the next morning. Once The Villain was released, he scarpered off so we’ve not seen him around the camping all day. One side-effect of this is that the cats which are normally driven off by the aggressive males were in the camping. The mother fluffy pussy has spent quite a bit of time here and joined Elias as he was working. Interestingly, she even allowed herself to be petted by a number of people.

There were a number of visitors to the mother and four kittens which have been put back into the storeroom. This, in retrospect, wasn’t a good move as the storeroom will soon be emptied creating lots of noise and movement. The kittens are now very mobile and able to explore outside the confines of the storeroom as well as get back up the very high step. I’m concerned that all the attention might cause the mother to take the kittens elsewhere.

All of the customers at the camping have arrived to stay only two nights yet they are still here and haven’t indicated a desire to leave so far.

The lads, including Dimitris, have been raking the camping and collecting up all the stones which only ‘grow’ again by the next season. It all looks very nice for a while although it’s a dirty, thankless task.

I’ve had a leisurely day other than cats, washing and making my bed with clean sheets(!)… The ‘Little Helpers’ have requested to come out on the Evening Walk again. I quickly referred them back to Elias and Matilde who agreed the twins could go but not Greta, the youngest, as she’s already very tired. I’ve said we’ll go soon after 20:00 as yesterday, we didn’t get out until 20:45 so it was so late by the time we were back and the dogs fed. I looked around, having fed them yesterday night, to discover them all inside the van, curled up and fast asleep! I still had my blog to write. Fortunately, I’d eaten earlier for a change.

Much warmer but cloudy earlier with a chilly wind out of the sunshine.
