Bigger oven

Some rodent activity caused a certain amount of disturbance during the night. Initially, the aforementioned rodent sat on the van roof munching then moved his activities to the awning roof finally going down into the compound to cause mayhem there. Charlie, Obi and Isabella were outside so they chased the intruder and did a little barking so had to be shouted at. Not that barking is too much of a problem as there are no customers only staff who live in the reception block close to the road.

It wasn’t really worth going back to sleep although I didn’t bother getting out of bed until the alarm sounded. We were out much later than yesterday so it was already getting light as I crossed the field. The dogs kept amazingly together and there were no unplanned encounters with other dogs.

Once back, I made up some dough which turned out to be two loaves as I was a little exuberant with the quantities. I made up my breakfast then rode into Paleochora for some exercise. I’d not charged my bike battery so it was very low. Also, the wind was from the west to I had to cycle back with very little assistance and plenty of resistance from the wind.

I released and fed the dogs then walked up to reception as there had been a message from Maria about some of the money. Apparently, the money from Easter had been mixed up in the till and I’d not counted it before putting the money in from last weekend. As it turned out, 150 Euro had fallen down the back of a cupboard which accounted for some of the shortfall. I usually keep the money separate but needed change in a hurry and was sitting in the office anyway.

Then there was Maria’s laptop which needed attaching to the network printer and a discussion about the replacement toner for the printer and the processing unit. Both of these are copies however the printer is fine with the processing unit but doesn’t like the toner cartridge.

It was getting on by the time I got back to the dogs and had my breakfast.

The day was reasonably warm but sometimes cloudy and a little windy making it occasionally quite cool. I sat outside in the chair for a while and discovered that the sun was a little stronger than I’d anticipated.

Maria called to tell me a courier was at reception bearing the new over I ordered a while back. The round oven is great for things like pizza and flatbreads but is a bit of a hazard when anything more bulky is put inside. It heats up very quickly but the temperature is a little variable. I want to make bread in a Dutch Oven so a larger oven was needed. It has now arrived together with the over thermometer ordered at the same time. The courier was very efficient and required several signatures unlike the most recent one from ACS.

I’ve yet to cook anything in this oven as I’d already baked the two loaves of bread. It’s possible to cook several items in this oven which also has a rotisserie which will be invaluable when I’m cooking meat! Needless to say, meat cooking is low on my agenda.

I understand there is another item arriving tomorrow, hopefully the Dutch Oven. A pity I already have two loaves of bread…

Sunny and warm with some cloudiness and a cool wind
