Short back and sides

It was foolish of me to think that the rodent situation was under control with the eviction of another mouse. Skinny and Isabella excitedly burrowed amongst the debris at the front of the van in search of any renegades. Isabella finally went outside to coordinate a rearguard manoeuvre and I ended up telling Skinny to give it a rest when I went to bed. I think I may need to employ Plan B to rid myself of these pesky rodents.

Another van joined the Austrians in the Promontory car park. The latter were to be seen driving towards Paleochora as I was riding back. The other van turned out to be the couple who left the camping saying they were going to Iraklion. It probably explains why they filled up with water before leaving. Usually, on a long run, it’s a good idea to have the water tank nearly empty to save fuel. Did they think I wouldn’t notice them out on the Promontory where I walk the dogs? Was it necessary to feed me a cock and bull story about going to Iraklion? Do I care if they go elsewhere?

The walk itself was quite uneventful. The sky was overcast and there was a gentle wind. I was wearing a thin fleece which was quite enough. Charlie was a flasher and needed reminding occasionally to keep up.

I went to Petrakis on my way back from my cycling workout. One reason was to buy a cabbage which I forgot to do. I shall need to be creative with the Doggy Dinners tomorrow morning.

I received a call from the Romanian couple to say they were at the barrier and wanted to pay. I managed to forget to bring their ID card as well as the key to the cash drawer as they needed change. I went back for the ID but still forgot the key. They eventually found a €10 note between them. They say they may come back next week but will spend the weekend exploring the west of the island.

The German couple who arrived yesterday left around midday. They only came to use the facilities but threaten to return for a longer stay.

Bona came with her tribe to do some cleaning and upen up some of the cabins to air. She gave me instructions to close them all up in the event of heavy rain.

The Swiss couple must have washed nearly all of their possessions judging by the load they put on. It took ages to wash so I stayed put and played with the cats whilst waiting for it to finish.

I got the ladder from the storeroom and attacked the carob trees which surround the van. They have become horribly out of control and the upper branches bang on the corrugated roof and the lower ones on the metal supports. No longer! I now have a large pile of branches stacked in the end of the SDC which is not frequented by the dogs.

The day has been warm as well as still. I was glad of a thicker fleece for my ride but that came off once I was back at the camping. The punters were wandering around in summer shorts and T-shirts, the Swiss couple probably because everything else was in the wash!

Quite mild and still so cannot complain.
