Holiday Weekend

I let Skinny and Obi out at 04:30 so didn’t bother going back to sleep. I was up shortly after so we got off to a good start. I thought it might be warm but the wind put paid to that.

Our walk was uneventful as Luis and his tree were friends and the others managed to keep together. A rather surprised couple at Plakaki, sleeping in their hammock, were disturbed by a visit from Isabella around 05:30 and by all of us a while later as I was unaware of their presence. The woman was at Petrakis later returning two beer bottles. A night out at Plakaki on the rocks!

I rode into Paleochora over Panorama with a stop at Petrakis for some DD bits to save going there tomorrow. The road was ‘closed’ and people working, however traffic was allowed to pass. The machine was picking at a giant rock overhead and I feared my cycle helmet might not be enough should it fall.

I fed the dogs and grabbed a cup of tea. I had some IT jobs for Inter Sport and Simon so got those out of the way before UK business hours.

The Waldmann’s were getting ready to leave and another German couple were loading their children and belongings into their camper van to go to Elafonissi. Not long after, Gabi and Manfred arrived and Axel, the chap from last night, moved into the Waldmann’s place so that Gabi and Manfred could more easily get into theirs. Manfred commented on my accident last summer saying that he and Gabi had come off their motorbike with some less-than-insignificant injuries. They now have a Smart on a trailer behind their van and the bike has gone. I said I just stuck to my bike but with a hard had.

A Dutch couple arrived at the same time as the others left and Gabi and Manfred arrived. The IOM couple took the place of the Germans with the kids opposite the bar entrance and the Dutch took the place previously occupied by Axel. A little like the tile puzzle game.

Then there was the arrival of the family in M6 followed by a washing machine for the recently arrived Dutch. They had a picture painted on the rear of their van whilst in Morocco in 2022 which, although stylised, is not unattractive. The toilet in M6’s bathroom was losing water from the cistern so Toni came to replace the ball valve and fix the siphon which was the root of the problem. Another party will arrive tomorrow to stay in M5. The mother of the M6 family spent time in Aberystwyth, Oxford and Brighton so speaks good English as do some of her children and husband. This came up when she asked where in UK I was born.

The day had moved on considerably so I went back to the dogs to finish my cold tea and catch up with the admin. Soon after, I had a call from the courier delivering nutritional yeast which is quite popular in Greece it would seem, as several companies sell it. With 500g I’m set for quite a while. They pack in brown paper bags with a small plastic window to show the contents.

I fell asleep in the sun, quite unsurprisingly, however I’d already dropped off the Dutch washing and prepared the doggy rice and φακές for me.

Georgia has arrived as I’ve just seen her pickup outside of T4. No doubt we’ll have the pleasure of her company for the weekend. Doubtless, she’ll be dying to help out even though the weekend isn’t that busy. Perhaps she’ll sit up in the office for a few hours tomorrow to welcome the Holiday Arrivals as they’re all Greek…

Much cooler than yesterday probably due to the cold wind although mostly sunny, and warm when out of the wind. The weather looks stable until Tuesday. Saturday and Sunday should be less windy and perhaps slightly warmer. Sounds like we’re set for the weekend.
