Inconsiderate Decomposition

Petra gave me a good helping of Gemista with some additional potatoes but I still managed to eat some bread.

Maya, Isabella and Obi were out all night and not a sound was heard. Miss FidgetyPants was inside with Skinny, Luis and Oskar but even she just lay down near the gate and didn’t move. I’m wondering if the last of the rodents has expired removing a potential cause of nocturnal excitement.

I managed to get out of bed shortly after 04:15 so we were headed across the field just after 04:35. There are fewer vans and only one car in the car park. We didn’t see Kostas and I wasn’t sure if the tyre tracks were recent. Luis made good progress and managed to catch us up later in the walk but didn’t make it all the way to Azzuro. I didn’t dunk him as I want to see how well the topical treatment is working.

The girls were barking at something as we left the Promontory to find the three Austrian inmates of the villa next to the river introducing themselves. We had a brief chat and it would seem they have been following our antics closely. The sisters amused them by performing and Isabella lay down on the beach some way away.

After a pause, I went to Petrakis for carrots and potatoes for the DDs. I bought a courgette but there wasn’t room for it so it can go in next time. I used up the cabbage so must get more. It was warm in Paleochora but I didn’t check the temperature. Perhaps I’m getting used to it. I stopped for quite a wavy swim off Alonáki as there was a strong wind.

I made the DDs, fed the dogs and made my second cup of tea. I received a message to say that IOS 17 Beta is now available so I spent a little while updating my devices. The iPhone XS is the oldest device supported as well as AW4 but not the early iPad Pro which will have to remain at IOS 16 which is still not a bad run. My Apple Watch now has a different layout which makes it easier to see for persons with reduced visual acuity. Particularly the activity screens which are now nice and big. Apple Watch is not just for young people who can see!

I bravely decided to investigate the unpleasant odour emanating from the under sink cupboard. I thought perhaps one of the recently-departed rodents may have decided to decompose there but discovered a blue freezer block had been nibbled releasing the content onto the back of the shelf. Some very well-nourished maggots were having a field day so I removed the freezer block and contents and left the maggots to clear up. I’m sure they’ll make a more thorough job than I would and they will eventually fly off to annoy everyone. Once I’m certain the rodent problem is a thing of the past, I will clear up all the mess. I checked the bait box to discover one of the new poison sachets had been eaten so there may still be some visitors. Only time will tell.

I’d planned to do other things today but then there’s always tomorrow…

The group, which I was expecting to arrive yesterday, did not appear to have materialised or have been exceptionally quiet which is doubtful. Perhaps they are not young people. The car park is quite full however I don’t know if the other park is being used yet.

It has been warm but not excessively and it’s nice not having a strong, gusty wind.

I hear on the DW news that a lioness was seen to be attacking a wild boar on the outskirts of Berlin early this morning. Apparently, locals have been asked to look out for the animal and keep children and pets indoors, for some reason. There’s a bounty on wild boar so maybe the lioness is doing everyone a favour. Furthermore, there is no report of a missing cat from any official animal institution.

Cooler than yesterday but much less windy. Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday could be over forty again.
