Boris’ ball

I may have mentioned that we found a ball whilst walking out yesterday morning and that Boris dropped his ball in the sea (again). As it turned out, the ball we found on the shore yesterday was a ball we had previously lost. It was a lot cleaner than it used to be, but it was the same ball. You might speculate that there are many tennis balls which, for one reason or another, fall into the sea, and you might decide that in fact, I don’t know that it was the original ball. However, I can say something which might change all of this. I doubt there are many squeaky balls dropped into the sea off Grammeno beach and the one we retrieved was indeed squeaky. Perhaps the one dropped into the sea yesterday will be washed up again soon. Some days it is possible to lose more than one ball – even more than one ball in a single outing!

According to the weather forecast, I recall that the weather was supposed to be cooler today. As it turned out, it was quite warm and I went out without even putting on a coat. There was a little wind but mostly from the south. No snails lurking in my shoe this morning.
As I write, the sun is beginning to come through my east-facing window, hopefully starting to warm up the van. Dave is laying in the blankets spread on the floor and Boris has taken himself off the bed wedged down beside the driver’s seat. They have both been treated with anti-flea stuff this morning since Boris, in particular, has been scratching a lot lately. Boris spends more time outside than Dave often taking to his boudoir all day. I have covered the larger of the cages with a piece of waterproof material which protects him from showers and the north wind yet enables him to benefit from any sun from the south. The wind from the south is usually warm.

Boris was pleased to get his food this morning as I took it away from him last night for being miserable – more miserable than usual that is. I usually feed them last thing at night because the food makes them do smelly farts which are not very pleasant when you’re relaxing in the evening. But asleep, I don’t care. I fed Boris and then went back near him to turn off the light. He started to growl at me gently warning me that my presence was unwanted. At which point I stood over him in my most threatening pose appearing as big as possible. He stopped growling and just lay there looking up at me. Then I removed his food bowl to a nearby shelf and continued my stance. When I finally took myself away, I took his bowl with me a put it on the counter far out of his reach.

This morning, before our walk, he sat nicely by the door waiting to be let out and sat nicely again when we returned in the hope of getting his food from yesterday. He’s still one meal behind but it seems to have concentrated his mind on cooperating…

Maybe today it will be sunny!
