More neighbours

This morning was probably the least windy part of the day. We walked, saw no one and returned with the same number as we left.

Out watering the sand outside Dave’s location, suddenly Athina, Giannis and their not-so-little boy George appeared. They arrived last night and I’d not noticed them. They came first in 2014 when the van was alongside the storeroom and Luis and Fido were still puppies. Giannis is still a beekeeper but has branched out into bio vegetable farming with another. Athina is still working at the same job. George is at school now and turning into a fine young lad. We chatted and then I went off to the supermarket. Unfortunately Giannis cannot stay as it’s his job to look after the vegetables but he’ll be back next weekend.

The day trundled by and got windier as the afternoon progressed. Another group of French children is encamped outside my fence, this time in tents. I have seen them but only spoken very briefly with one of them. They have a better feel about them than the first lot.

You will be aware that there was a powerful earthquake in the sea almost equidistant from Kos to Bodram in Turkey. Two people were killed in Kos as a result of a ceiling collapsing. The quake was felt in Iraklion according to one report although Kos is not that near to Crete. Some of the more serious casualties were airlifted to Crete for medical attention. An earthquake at this point in the season is not so good for Kos. The quake, although at 6.5, was not very strong, it was only 10km below the surface of the Earth so quite destructive. Most modern building in Greece are built to withstand earthquakes so it is only older, stone buildings that succumb to quakes. Nothing has happened at this end of the island for over a year but then we had loads of quakes last Spring.

I’ve been pushing on with some more work for Inter Sport and chatting to Ursula. She was telling me about her experience with Lorraine’s husband and I suspect it could have been better. She is considering doing a run of her own but organised by us in conjunction with Heike and her contacts. I’ve not yet found someone who has not struggled to work with Lorraine.

The wind is calming, the French are out so we have that to look forward to and Janne and Erica will be back soon.

Time for some food and a glass of something.
