A good circle day but…

I really don’t know where the day has gone. Hardly any time to sit down or even to eat! I seem not to have stopped since I got up.

I walked the dogs this morning and then took Dave, who led me on a merry dance down the east beach. I had forgotten to put on a scarf and the wind was blowing from the north. I was not enjoying Dave’s exploration so I turned him back towards Grammeno.

I went to Paleochora to see Manolis, Georgia’s brother, to pick up a new rear tyre for my bike. As I approached his filling station I could see an object lying on the road. As I got nearer I could make out that it was a dog. Manolis appeared and I could see that it was his dog. She was dead following a collision with a car.

She was three years old and enjoyed a good fuss from the filling station customers. Manolis was shocked so I helped to clear up as the cars gingerly wove around the still form in the road. We picked her up and I put her to one side. Manolis’ daughter appeared and could see there was a problem. His kids will not be too happy tonight. I suggested that should he decided on a replacement, perhaps a long line might be a good solution.

I went to Petrakis where I bought some fruit and I’m now the proud owner of a genuine Petrakis 2018 calendar. No doubt I’ll get one from Antonis as well, so am likely to be calendared-out! The wind was now from east-northeast so going back was a different story from going out.

I managed to sit down in my chair for a few minutes before the arrival of Xanthippos to clear all the sun loungers and folding chairs from outside the storeroom. As expected, he stacked the sun loungers neatly in the space I cleared a few days ago. He actually made a good job and didn’t just stand at the door and chuck everything in. He had a bit of a rant about having to do all the work whilst his brother sat on his backside (or words to that effect). Later, he came into the compound to pick the carob pods for his goats. He was delighted that there were so many. I’m sure the goats will be pleased too!

I got a call from a courier to tell me that he was parked outside Vakakis bakery with three packets for me. He would be there until 13:00. I jumped back onto my bike and rode into Paleochora for the second time. I found the courier who was sitting in the vehicle surrounded by packages. Mine were quite big although I could have got them back to the camping. He told me he would be going to Kountoura next and would call me and drop them off. Pity he didn’t think of that before but anyway it’s only 9km to Paleochora and back. The items were ordered from a company in Bulgaria. They are the wireless network access points for the camping. Good service from them. The small item was a protective case for my watch as I can see it’s only a matter of time before it gets scraped on a concrete wall or a rock whilst out with the dogs.

Olivia arrived in the camping and scuttled about cleaning and putting things in the washing machine. I expect some of Georgia’s friends are coming for Christmas so she was making sure things were ready. She swept and mopped the office after she’d asked me where the mop was. I’d locked everything in the laundry room otherwise it gets acquired by the Albanians.

The temperature rose as the day went on. There were some brief showers and now it’s quite windy. A job for tomorrow is to trim back the carobs by the van. They are scraping on the roof. The wind is forecast to increase during the night and will even go quite red at one point.

Those branches are going to be annoying tonight. I may go out and operate now.
