Calmer!

The wind blew all night and was still going strong this morning. Not the 74km/h forecast but still gusting to 51km/h. I was a little tardy at rising this morning as I woke up in the night so slept soundly until the alarm sounded. Note to self: set alarm ten minutes earlier to be ahead of the game.

Despite the strong wind, we had a pleasurable walk and run before returning to take Boris on his. Thence off to Paleochora where I spied a British Hymer motorhome parked by the roadside on my way to the port to see the PAWS puppies.

There are fewer puppies now as the older ones are no longer there. About six remain plus two adult dogs. The black dog which has been there all the time and a male brown dog today.

The easterly wind made cycling to Paleochora quite hard work taking something like 25 minutes to complete the journey which might take as little as 12 minutes. With the following wind, the return was a piece of cake.

Breakfast with Ursula inside the van as neither of us felt bold enough to venture outside. Luis invited himself in and sat down in the doorway washing himself. The British couple, Nick and Victoria, who arrived three nights previously to stay one night, came to say they were leaving to explore but may return on Friday. I pointed them in the direction of Elafonnissi and Anydri. They will probably go further afield.

More strimming was taking place and Xanthippos was making a good job raking up in the entrance and car park. I make a point of congratulating him as I walked past.

The lack of sun made electrically-heated water a necessity, so I went around turning on the various heaters. I was fiddling with servers under the awning with the outside door closed as it was quite cool outside. But got quite bored and fell asleep as I warmed up.

I wandered onto the beach with Luis to see the British people in the van I saw at the port earlier. Lau had mentioned he’d seen them in the Grammeno car park on one of his walks.

They have a large Hymer which is a few years old but nothing like as old as mine. They have been travelling for several years and are enjoying their time in Crete. We got onto the subject of TV programmes and were comparing viewing choices which turned out to be quite similar. They will be staying for tonight and even hinted at the possibility of braving the mob on the morning walk. I bet they chicken-out!

The evening walk was complicated by wretched people going out on the Promontory for Sunday evening walks which is hugely inconsiderate of them. The usual three remained attached as a consequence.

Back at the camping the dogs were put to bed and fed. I went for a shower with reduced water pressure so am now lovely and clean.

I am reheating the Ursula potato and peas from last night with a little rice on the side.
