All go today!

Loud barking and plenty of excitement heralded the arrival of Tina (the cleaner) from two years ago. She has given up cleaning at the camping during the summer as she has a disabled daughter who was very ill in hospital. She came yesterday evening to ask me if I would look at her computer as she had some blue screen with a message on it and it would not start. I arranged to go see her at 11:00 and Dimitris, her husband would come in their pickup to collect me.

I do not normally have appointments in the mornings so had to get my act together today. We were out on the Early Walk on time but came back sooner than we have of late. I ran only 6km, showered and rode into Paleochora as the weather was fine and the road was dry. Yannis rushed up to show me his latest Garmin sport watch which he used the first time for the event in Heraklion on Sunday. He told me he came 17th out of seventy with a time of 35 minutes for the seven kilometre course which involved a 600m climb at the outset. The last arrival had a time of two hours! He’s not grasped all of the functions of his new gadget as yet but I’m sure he will in time.

My next visit after the supermarket was to the electrical shop to buy sockets however it was not yet open. The guy’s wife deals with the shop so the hours can be a little ‘flexible’. I waited a few minutes until 09:30 then left as I wanted to get breakfast before being picked up by Dimitris.

Breakfast out of the way and Dimitris arrived at the appointed time. We drove to their apartment where I wrestled with the computer which is ranged on a couple of large shelves above their bed. Bedrooms are not good places for computers as there is lots of fluff and dust as one might imagine. They share this bedroom with their disabled daughter so there is little space left.

The computer was beyond a quick repair so I took it back to the camping where I have more equipment to hand. By this time, the day was moving on and I’d not even checked my emails. I checked in on the rest of the camping to discover there had been an arrival in my absence. An Austrian couple with a caravan and two dogs. They speak very little English so our conversation covered only the basics.

Peter, who is staying for the winter in T3, is also from Austria so went over to fill in the details. No sooner had I dealt with them than I received a phone call from a Polish woman who apparently had emailed Maria. She was dropping a friend in Chania, taking another to the airport then driving over to Paleochora. The last part in the dark and probably in the rain. It has just started to rain as I write. I am waiting for her to arrive and have asked her to phone me from reception. The rain is now pelting down!

Peter told me that the guy staying in T1 was planning to leave on Sunday at the end of his first month. Apparently, he is returning to Austria. I suspect he found the pace of life at Grammeno too tiring for him. He likes to spend his time in Spain and speaks Spanish. I suspect it will be not long before he returns to Spain. He doesn’t speak English or Greek so would have had to talk to Peter or Ulrike, my Austrian neighbour.

I have prepared my evening meal which just needs to be cooked. It is rice and spinach so will not take too long once our Polish guest arrives. I shall wander up to the reception to be there to greet her.
