Dust!

I discovered I’d downloaded the first few episodes of Bodyguard so thought I’d watch the first one. The evening was yet young so I watched the second. I’ll be interested to see how it progresses.

Everyone slept inside last night, except Skinny and Obi who chose to be elsewhere. It was windy all night building to a crescendo at getting up time. I could see that one of the guys on the southern SunBlocker had broken so I decided to take down the SunBlocker as it was likely the wind would only get stronger. I dumped the SunBlocker in the storeroom to the accompaniment of one of the customers’ dogs who saw my torch. It was a stressful night for dogs. Mine were inside with me except Skinny who doesn’t really do stressed unless it’s something that he should be hunting or thinks it should be. Obi burrows into the sand under the decking not to be seen until morning.

The Early Walk was very blustery until we arrived on the Promontory where we were more sheltered from the northerly wind. At this time it was still gusting around 60km/h so breezy enough. The trees and shrubs break the wind very well as you discover when you come back to cross the beach. We walked around as usual but didn’t do ball today as it was so windy and I had Obi and Skinny on leads. Skinny was on the 10m lunge so could run around a bit. They don’t really like the wind so were quite content to be back to the safety of the van for a couple of hours. I deemed it too windy for running so went into the sea on a slightly extended session. Swimming with the wind was comparatively easy however coming back a little harder.

I felt quite chilly on my way back from the sea so washed my feet off with the hose then had a cup of tea. Skinny was out in the main compound with Obi so I wandered the camping to check how well the various cables has survived the night. I noticed the tall palm at the entrance seems nearer to the telegraph pole and suggested to Maria that having someone take down some of the leaves from the top, the palm would be less likely to blow over demolishing everyone’s telephones.

I made breakfast and enjoyed the sun: the wind not so much. At 11:30 the power went off; probably due to the wind. It didn’t come back on so I changed the device that transmits the weather data over to my phone as the Internet doesn’t work when the power is out. Fortunately, the mobile BTSs do. I messed up one of the settings then spent quite a while sorting it out. The power came back on for a few minutes then went off again for a couple more hours. It has been on since 16:30 so I’m cooking some food. Things involving aubergines.

Before preparing any food, I swept out the van and cleaned most of the dust from my external food preparation area. I just don’t like the sound of grinding between my teeth. This evening’s culinary extravaganza is something to do with aubergines, tomatoes, onions and anything else in the fridge that looked like it had seen better days. The ‘mixture’ is keeping warm in the instant pot and some rice is cooking on the gas.

The wind does not seem to be going to quieten down tonight so it will be an action replay of yesterday. It’s not cold, so I’ll stay outside to eat and probably watch something exciting on my laptop as I don’t fancy being cooped up inside and I’ve moved the UPS, which keeps the power on for the TV, outside for the laptop as it now has no battery. Having my laptop close down each time the power dips is extremely annoying.
