The forecast warned of early rain which turned into a couple of short showers producing less than 0.4mm between them. There was one soon after the alarm which caused me to pause before getting out of bed however, Isabella and Skinny soon made me get up.

The morning was warm and not too dark as dawn was close by. The sea was still reasonably energetic so it was necessary to use caution when crossing the causeway to avoid wet feet.

The sky cleared as we walked up towards the Plakaki rocks crossing the now empty stream bed to the sea. Turning round, I picked up some plastic litter and some polystyrene foam washed or blown onto the beach. In the distance, a car arrived and a man got out to walk on the Promontory. It was still not 08:00.

We passed by the rubbish container and thence to Grammeno Beach and onto the Promontory for the second circuit, but anticlockwise. We didn’t encounter the man and his car had gone when we arrived back at the car park. The sea might have even become rougher when we crossed the causeway once more.

Back at the camping, it was now sunny and quite warm which was pleasant. I needed to get on as I had a job at 10:30 so wanted to get my breakfast. Furniture Helpline wanted me to set up their Draytek router at their new location before Christmas however we needed a laptop at their end in order to do it. It is now working and reconfigured to take into account their revised setup.

Other activities included transmitting the electricity bill to Maria for payment. It is over €8,000 as Georgia expected. That does include electricity used during the summer period when there are loads of fridges, air conditioning and so on. It’s still quite a lot in one go.

Nikos has arrived in Athens so will have spent today at his appointment. He may come back on the next ferry, whenever that is. The ferries, buses and planes are not operating a service every day which is why the ferry company arranged a bus to take passengers from Souda, the port of Chania, to Iraklion. At present, there are only three buses from Chania to Paleochora per week. Usually, there are more than this per day.

The brother of the tabby cat has been around more today and he assisted me in restarting the hot water boiler. We know how to have a good time!

There was a short shower in the early afternoon but, despite that, the panels managed to generate over 7kWh of electricity. It wasn’t cold yesterday evening so the fan heater didn’t even come on. The battery is not yet fully charged.

It’s nearly dark so I’d better take the dogs for their walk.

The Evening Walk was very enjoyable under an occasionally moonlit sky. The sea was too rough to cross the causeway so we doubled-back and went another way. Luis is frustrated as his rice is too warm to eat.

Another mild, sunny day with little wind. This winter resembles my first on Crete in 2013/14.
