In the kitchen

A dry night unlike the forecast for tonight. We were up and out by 06:30 and my torch was off soon after. Not that it was light but I could see well enough without it. With the torch, I mostly see a pool of light in front of me. Without it, I can make out where the dogs are most of the time.

The crossing of the rocks and causeway required some care as the sea was unpredictable. The wind was mostly southerly. It’s now turned easterly and colder for the next couple of days.

On the way towards Plakaki, the dogs gave chase to PlusOne who was mooching around at the end of the beach. I let them run a little bit as PlusOne scurried off towards the hotel, then zapped them to get them back. We still have a little work to do with not chasing things.

There was a varied selection of objects washed up which I collected as we made our way back. The only signs of life were a couple of cars on the beach road and the men on the building site.

It was sunnier as we reentered the Promontory and made our way back over the rocks in the opposite direction then back to the camping for breakfast.

It was a busy cooking day as I’d made dough the previous evening from the starter I’d left in the sun to regenerate. Sourdough takes a while to rise anyway, more so when it’s cooler.

I prepared my morning glue and the Doggy Dinners to go in after. Once the DDs were done, I fired up the oven to bake two loaves as well as some squash seeds once they were out. I don’t have two bread pans so have to cook the loaves separately which takes a lot longer. I don’t have to pay for the electricity but today wasn’t particularly sunny. With all the cooking and baking, I’m in a power deficit, unlike yesterday. The next couple of days will be mostly cloudy as well as maxing out around 12C so I’m likely to be using more electricity than I produce.

Other than cooking, I found time for Matthew’s tax return, to go to the office to get a photo of the other side of the electricity bill for Maria and to accept a parcel for Nikos. The hot water boiler didn’t require my attention today as it was performing normally.

The little cat, the crazy brothers, accompanied me to the reception where he allowed me to pet him as we took the photo of the bill and awaited the arrival of the courier.

We’re expecting rain and wind later this evening with more of the same tomorrow. The forecast remains unsettled for the next ten days. We’ve had an exceptionally good run up until January which is usually the wettest month anyway.

Not cold but colder and mostly cloudy. Rain later and during the night. Showers and colder tomorrow.
