Tree-shouting

The evening was shorter than usual due to a technical problem with Terry’s laptop which involved reinstalling Office 365 over a 4G link. It did its best! I was later to bed than usual as I needed to eat having got his machine operational again.

The night was a lot cooler as was the morning. I let Isabella out at some ungodly hour. She spent the remainder of the night curled up in the chair which I’d left out on the decking following my sunbathing session.

Our morning activities followed the usual pattern except that there was something fishy on Alonáki Beach which kept Fido and Oskar busy until I discovered they were lagging behind. I was able to encourage Oskar to catch up but not Fido as he has only a bark collar which is not even switched on. He eventually caught us up somewhere back on the Promontory. The recently acquired collars will arrive in the fullness of time.

We were welcomed back to the camping to the sound of chainsaws whirring as the men were continuing with the tree lopping. They were using a hydraulic platform to reach the higher branches so there was a lot of shouting of instructions between the platform operator and the chainsaw technician aloft. They’ve not completely finished as there are branches and cuttings to dispose of. It’s looking good so I suspect they will be done by the end of tomorrow.

Another chainsaw was working in the field, presumably Xanthippos. We could feel the residual heat from the ashes and see a stack of sawn wood from the larger pieces and trunks of the bushes and shrubs. There was little smoke as the first I knew of any fire was the sound of crackling as the leaves burned. It will take at least a couple more days for all of the piles to be disposed of and I suspect the fire site will move to the piles of greenery rather than drag it over the field.

I played with my 8GB Raspberry Pi but have concluded that it’s faulty. I’ve spent a lot of time fiddling with it but I learned a lot in the process. I’ve written to the supplier to see what he has to say.

Other activities included cat feeding and a little campsite wandering. Not that there are any punters at present.

The Evening Walk was even later as it was a light evening. Just as the dogs emerged from the gap in the fence which leads to the road, some local lads arrived on their motorbikes. They, I suspect, are responsible for doing doughnuts in the car park and racing around in the sand.

The dogs were at their most excited having just been released, so headed towards the lads who turned tail and rode off in the opposite direction. I confess to having done nothing to prevent the dogs.

The walk itself was very pleasurable as the sea was calm and it was still light enough to see yet dark enough to make it interesting and discourage others from cluttering the place up. I had to wait a little while for Charlie to join us when we got back but nothing new there!

It’s been a sunny day so the battery is full despite baking bread earlier in the day. The two loaves appear to be quite good and I’ve tested one much to the interest of the dogs. As soon as I go to cut the bread, they’re all there hoping for a piece. Maybe when it’s a few days old and hard as rock but not when it’s fresh and new!

It was so warm today I broke out some summer shorts and was sitting around in just those and a T-shirt. As soon as the sun weakened, I was putting back the layers but I’m sitting outside at 19:40 with the tent door wide open and there’s not a queue of dogs waiting to get inside. Only Skinny, who volunteered and Luis, who was coerced are inside, the others are amusing themselves somewhere on the decking on in the compound unless I’ve left the field gate open!

Just over 20℃ with hardly any wind and plenty of sunshine resulted in the generation of 9.66kWh although 4.19kWh were used, mostly cooking.
