Lemoned out

A Blast from the Past with a visit to Heartbeat. A former resident of Aidensfield, now a traveller and showman, comes back with his family to visit his birthplace as he has terminal cancer so not long to live. The residents are far from pleased to see a large truck and caravan parked on the common land. Several plots are hatched to discredit the son who falls in love with the vicar’s daughter. And, if you like 1960s music, you can’t go far wrong.

I watched the first episode of the second season of the Mandalorian which followed true StarWars style. With good effects and plenty of action as together, the Sand People and residents of Mos Pelgo join forces to defeat the horrible dragon which has been terrorising everyone. A calm and composed way to end the day.

I forgot to push Fido out of the door at bedtime so paid the price around 02:00. At least he was quick at coming back and I needed to go anyway.

We were out of the gate just after 06:00 heading across the field and thence to the Promontory. It was somewhat dark as we were earlier than of late. Trying to keep track of the dogs on Alonáki Beach is a challenge in the dawn light. All was revealed by the time we reached Plakaki and it was a slow wander back for the second circuit. The dogs were very involved with a lot of sniffing.

The Promontory was calm and sunny as we walked back over the rocks and then to the camping. I was keen to get them back as I wanted to visit the supermarket.

I’d charged the bike battery overnight and allowed it to balance itself following a series of intermediate charges. With no rain for a few days, the unfinished section of the road is quite dusty when large vehicles pass through. I noticed there is another pipe laid out ready for burial so I anticipate some more of the new road will get dug up. Several points have already been dug up and filled back in.

I was quite early so Petrakis wasn’t too busy. Children were going to school and the crossing lady was shepherding younger children to the primary school.

Having completed my shop and bumped into Manolis (Litsa), I rode back to the camping. Manolis said he had a lot of lemons so asked me to drop by on my way back. They have escaped from the oppressive atmosphere of Chania for a weekend in more desirable circumstances. We had a quick chat, and I took my mountain of lemons and went back to the dogs.

I fed the dogs and prepared my own breakfast whilst putting away the shopping. I’d forgotten to get some starter ready to make bread so just made up some dough containing the cold starter to see what would happen. It’s been a little slow to rise even though it’s been a sunny day.

There were a couple of support calls. Nikos wanted the washing machine and I fixed the boiler then decided to turn it off as it seemed silly with just two people on the camping.

The day remained sunny and warm with some occasional wind. Xanthippos continued with his greenery burning and made some large fires. The smell of burning is becoming a feature now.

I went for a stroll along the beach and gave my feet a bath in the sea. I noticed a number of cars in the beach car park one of which was Antonis’.

We went for a protracted Evening Walk which got bogged down when I was speaking to Antonis. We exchanged information him telling me his partner’s pregnancy ended after the second month in January and that they’d moved to a house in Krios. We spoke about my situation in the camping now that the field is heading for development. Apparently, no one is interested in selling or even renting land at present. The AirSoft crowd left so we continued our walk and I managed to return to the camping with the same number of dogs with which I left.

After a cooler start, a warm and sunny day with a slight breeze.
