New oven

I managed to return from the Early Walk with exactly the same number of dogs with which I left. No one got lost, left behind or absconded. It was a beautiful morning although slightly overcast but with no appreciable wind.

I have a few things I wanted to do before riding out to Krios. I knocked up some dough and checked on some computer-related jobs before finally getting on my bike.

Gregory was wandering the beach when I arrived so I was able to give my undivided attention to the dogs. When Gregory returned from his beach wander, we sat and chatted for a while admiring the view and commenting on the coolish wind which had started to get up. I left around 09:30 and rode back to the camping where I met the Austrian couple at the gate. They were off on their bikes for an exploratory ride of the environs.

The morning progressed in the usual fashion but a little later as time had got the better of me. I think it was around 12:30 when I finally got around to eating my breakfast. I was distracted by computery things and so had mislaid the time.

Inside the awning tent it was warm even though the sky was overcast. It’s possible I may have dropped off at some point. Otherwise, I was busy working remotely with computers.

Later, I received a call from Maria to inform me of the arrival of a delivery vehicle at reception. I’d taken the precaution of giving the mobile number for the camping as delivery companies are not up for paying international charges to phone a foreign mobile. There was a large box and a telephone bill waiting for me. I wasn’t keen on the phone bill so suggested he might deliver that to the rightful recipient however I’d be glad to relieve him of the box containing my new oven.

I took it down and undressed it on the decking.

In case you are unable to read it, the note says:
“This package is happy to see you”
The oven takes up most of the table as it is definitely larger than the other one. There is a top and bottom element and the doors open wide so that a tray can be removed. It’s hard to know how they built it for €40 and still managed to make a profit especially as they suggest it will last 10 years and has a 2-year warranty!

I plugged it in and turned it on so that I could get rid of any smells. Tomorrow morning I should have something to cook so we can see how well it performs its primary function. I can now insert larger baking trays so will need to go shopping!

Elias came to say they’ve decided to extend their stay for a further two weeks so was able to come in to be mauled by Isabella and to admire the oven. He left with the cardboard box in which the oven arrived but quickly passed it on to the German guy with the small son who arrived yesterday. I’m sure he’ll derive a lot of fun from it. I received a chunk of freshly-baked bread for my troubles so will be able to enjoy that with my supper. I also have some bread left over from yesterday. Rather a chunky loaf.

Tomorrow morning, I should be able to test my oven on the dough I made earlier which will be allowed to rise during the night. It may be either charred to a cinder or uncooked. Time will tell…

Isabella and Skinny running madly along the shoreline in pursuit of birds.
Just to prove that Luis is still in the game.

The wind has become stronger so the sea is becoming agitated on the Alonáki side. I have only to take the dogs for a walk and prepare something for my supper, and the day is done.

Warm but overcast becoming more windy as the day progressed
