Yogurt Sea

Isabella was outside again last night and remained silent too. Only Skinny was pottering around wanting to come out to be with her. She didn’t stay out of the SDC very long as I shoved her in there when she tried to play vigorously with Obi and Charlie. That way, it takes half the time to put the collars on the other dogs. Luis and Fido managed to find themselves in there with her so I had to put their collars on by the external gate into the field.

Initially, I was wearing summer shorts and a T-shirt when I got up but decided it would be too cold with the wind so put on a thin fleece. The past few days have been flat calm or a Yogurt Sea as the Greek expression goes. Greek also describes the sea as if someone poured oil on it as it’s also referred to as an oily sea. More useless information!

Despite her best attempts, we were still out in good time as I was up a little earlier than usual being awake before the alarm today.

The walk was virtually uneventful other than Kostas filling up the depressions in the rocks with his pump chugging away in the far distance. I led the dogs down through the lagoon so as not to get it his way.

There was a truck towing a trailer with the Blue Bulldozer on it. I should imagine he’s rearranging the beach in front of Ammos Beach Bar. I could hear the machine later but could see what it was up to.

I made up some dough and starter as well as my breakfast and the Doggy Dinners, before riding into Paleochora to get a few items from Petrakis. Nearly all fruit and veg with a few seeds thrown in. There was a real racket opposite the supermarket as a machine was tamping down a trench recently excavated in the pavement. With all winter to do this work why wait until the season is almost upon us?

The ride back was against the wind but the bike’s battery was full so I had plenty of help.

I stopped at reception to continue the reinstallation of Window (10) on my only sensible Windows machine. I have other machines but they’re servers so hopelessly over the top. This machine is the one I plan to use remotely so that I can use the TeamVieweWindows desktop application which has many more features than the one for the iPad OS.

The breakfast was cooked so I released and fed the dogs before putting the DDs into the pot to get going. I cleared up the preparation wreckage then watched interesting videos on YouTube whilst stuffing my face.

I wandered to the office to finish off my Windows 10 installation. Maria wanted to get something to eat and to pop into Paleochora so I agreed to person the reception for a while. I was working on the machine with George sat on my lap. He made himself very comfortable.

I feel George is starting to moderate his agressive behaviour a little as he appears to have fewer war wounds at present. He’s onto a good number in reception except that Maria has a little bit of a problem with cat fur. The photo doesn’t do justice to all of George’s scars and injuries.

In all, I was up there for a couple of hours or more. Maria returned so I went back to process the DDs and put the now-risen dough in the oven.

It looks almost like a loaf of bread unlike some of the more recent attempts. Made up from 150g rye + 150g whole flour + 100g of white flour and a lump of starter made from whole flour. It should be a substantial loaf as it has seeds in too.

The wind has made the day feel much cooler than the preceding ones. It has been sunny and warm except at the outset until the sun got involved.

A windy and chilly start but warm and sunny during the day. The top temperature was better than advertised.
