Hottest Day of the Year

I eventually fell into bed at 01:30 having been disturbed by a mosquito whilst asleep in the chair on the decking. The next event was the alarm.

It felt cooler this morning despite Kostas telling me it would be 43C today. He arrived at about the same time as we did because we were a little later. He amused the dogs before going about his salt collection.

Our walk was uneventful as the two motor homes have been joined by another parked opposite where we cross the field. There was activity only when we were returning to the van. I think they were packing up ready to depart.

We returned to the camping with Oskar and Isabella far behind although they were with us to begin with. Oskar arrived just after I put the dogs in the van with Isabella soon after.

I had a couple of little tasks to perform before going swimming. I met Michael from the office and we walked to the sea together. He needed to discuss some boring admin matter with me. He’s becoming aware of how this asylum staggers between crises.

I set off from the beach in a southerly direction and kept going until I passed the small island and then followed the west side of the Promontory a little while. Time was getting on so I started heading back to find Michael in the water waiting for me. He waited patiently as I made my way back. We chatted a while then got out.

There was no time for any other activity so I released and fed the dogs before knocking up some dough as I was out of bread. I then retired to my chair by the cooler and fell asleep probably due to all the swimming.

There were some small IT tasks and some minor changes to the camping networks. I needed to move around a little so thought I’d brush up on some Yoga positions as it’s been a while…

The grid power went off due to a fire at Kandanos so I’m informed. I was affected only by the lack of a broadband Internet connection.

Xanthippos was lurking by CBV earlier so it’s possible there might be some customers soon. So far, other than a couple of cars for a few days, there has been very little. They must be feeling the pressure. At least the camping has some customers.

Isabella has been a little poorly today as she declined food this morning which is unheard of. I noticed she’d thrown up when I got back from swimming. Something she must have eaten… It’s coming up for Doggy Dinner time so we’ll see if she’s up for something to eat.

When I’ve moved from this chair, I’ve noticed how warm it has been. It’s been very comfortable in front of the cooler where I was joined by Skinny and Isabella for the bulk of the day. Isabella has now morphed into Fido.

Despite the increased warmth, the dogs have been fed although I gave Isabella a lighter repast of biscuits and rice only. The temperature is around 40C although it’s difficult to know exactly as the power and the Internet keep going off presumably due to difficulties following the fire. Probably a grass fire as it’s hardly rained and we’ve had August in June.

I hear we’ve changed to backup generator mode presumably because the main backup has run out of fuel. Only a guess mind…

Judging by the noises off, the backup has also failed probably because no one serviced it. After all, why mess with something until it fails in an emergency? The kitchen are going to struggle to produce food but I expect Manolis will soon appear with some diesel for the number one generator. I can hear frantic attempts as starting the smaller one right now and lots of compressed air being blown in to orifices.

The unceasing joys of living in Greece!

Weather summary for June
Conditions as of 19:00 1 July as there’s no Internet connection.
