Totally Lazy Sunday

I was busy dreaming so was not totally refreshed when I got up just after 05:15. The usual crowd were outside: Charlie, Obi and Isabella. Charlie was sensibly keeping out of Isabella’s way as she tends to use him as her stress ball.

We were out of the gate just after 05:30 and on to the Promontory just after. Not a car in the beach car park only the caravan which has been on the beach for several days. Interestingly, the one which usually comes for the summer season didn’t arrive this year.

There was not a copulating couple when we passed the sun beds before Plakaki so we went to the end, had our biscuits and set off back up the beach towards the Promontory. Something took Oskar’s attention but I persuaded him and the rest from following up. We didn’t find Charlie who failed to appear at Plakaki. He’d been enticed elsewhere so he was waiting patiently on the decking when we came back.

Two cars had appeared in the beach car park so I wasn’t surprised to find fisherpersons on the rocks and on the east side when we went back. To avoid any temptation, we took a slightly different route back but fortunately, the days of them rushing off to bark at any fishermen are long over.

It was nearly 07:30 when we got back so I started the DDs but still had time to Elevate my brain before going off to ride my bike.

I wasn’t concentrating too hard on the way into Paleochora as I was looking at the beaches and the number of people who were probably there overnight. I turned up over Panorama where I could see that the ferry had left, down past EKO and then along the promenade where there were plenty of people. They were either eating and drinking, swimming in the sea or walking around being tourists. Quite a bit of animation.

There were a couple of dogs at the PAWS sanctuary but neither appeared interested in me or my biscuits so I left for a quick spin around the port to see what was new. Men were busy with their boats and the harbour and coastguard vessel had the motor running with men working above deck. On my way out, I could see and hear people practicing sport at the track and pitch nearby.

The run back to Alonáki was easy so I was soon in the sea which was nothing like as calm as the previous day. It is still very warm, just the wind was chilly. Nevertheless, I swam out to the buoys and back in around twenty minutes then rode back to the camping to release and feed the dogs.

I rinsed out my shorts and hung them up intending to have a shower later in the day. I made some tea and sat down to do nothing for a while.

I was very successful in my goal achieving lots of nothing but also a little snoozing in the sun until woken up by barking dogs. The day progressed from there interrupted only by some other gentle exercises on the decking later. Not having Isabella ‘helping’ is a slight problem as she likes to be involved. Finally, she contented herself with curling up in my chair to watch me doing the plank.

I went to prepare the Doggy Rice to be reminded that I’d not dealt with the DD’s so had to get on with that before I could use the pot for the rice. As it is, the rice has just finished cooking so needs to be left to depressurise before the dogs can be fed. Luis, Fido Oskar and Skinny are inside the van so it’s quiet outside as Isabella has no one to play with (pester).

There has been plenty of activity on the camping but I suspect people will soon pack up to head off for work and school, which begins tomorrow. From now, the camping will rely on foreigners during the weekdays with additional local visitors at the weekends. I should imagine Georgia and Lena will slope off back to Chania this evening until the end of the week as there is really nothing here for them to do during the weekdays. Interestingly, the camping becomes a much more relaxed place during the weekdays. October may see an influx of Germans and Swiss as they have school holidays then. I know that one German family will be back this year having enjoyed themselves last year despite Covid.

Still at first then a little breezy leading to a warm, sunny, still day
