Collapsed

Another 04:45 wake-up and out by 05:00 or just after to a very warm, clear and not so cloudy morning. I’d forgotten to fill the little plastic pot I use for biscuits so we were on reduced rations. It was light when we arrived back at about 06:45. The motorhome which visited the camping and left before I could intercept it was parked on the beach car park and a small tent and rental car were on the beach. How they got out I know not.

My first task once back was to make tea then replace the chair fabric. I was putting on my boots last night and fell through the bottom of the chair as the fabric stitching collapsed beneath my weight. Isabella got on the chair earlier this morning and also fell into the abyss. The chair is now much more comfortable thanks to a replacement fabric. I’ve determined the fabric lasts 2-3 years before the rubbery clips and stitching fails. Not too terrible under such unfriendly conditions.

The two additional cushions are from the original fabric (dark blue) and the grey which superseded it

I performed mental activities before riding up the mountain on my bike. I passed some puffing runners in both directions, one of whom I knew as he came to the camping with the cat boxes the other Sunday.

I stopped at Petrakis for some groceries mostly fruit and vegetable with some dried stuff as well. The store was quite busy but I was in and out quite briskly and on my way back to the camping. I’d had a chat with Tassos which added to my time away.

It was coming up for ten when I arrived back at the camping so the dogs were pleased to get out and have their breakfast. I arranged the shopping and made some tea. The sun was shining so I easily fell asleep until I received a support call from Inter Sport in Haywards-Heath. They replaced the till drawer which wasn’t opening and still it does not open. I suggested they swap the printer with that in Lewes to see if theirs worked over there.

I had a series of visitors of whom one was Kirsti who’d kindly knitted me another hat. The first one was a little on the small side but the latest is larger and very colourful like the autumn leaves in Finland so I understand. The Greek lady with the tent needed her ID so that she could collect another card from the bank. I’ll check later that she’s reappeared but for the sake of one night, who cares!

I got my new ladder out and fixed up some of the overhead wires where the sun had eaten the plastic cable ties. The new ladder is a huge improvement on the camping’s one as it’s a lot taller and also much newer. A good €130 worth and much better than a broken arm or leg. The tallest cable which is on the higher building will be brought down lower so that I can clip it from the ground. I’m using metal clips designed for holding fence wire in position. They should last a good few years.

There were two arrivals. The first from Germany, a couple in a motorhome. The second came as dusk was approaching, an Austrian couple with a motorhome. Both are staying 2/3 days they say.

It has been a very warm day. I was back to summer shorts and T-shirt as I loafed in the sun or climbed the ladder to fasten the overhead cables.

A warm start to a warm and sunny day with a high over 25ºC. The warm weather continues through the weekend.
