Spring Is Springing

The sound of the sea to my left announced a strong easterly wind pushing the sea up Alonáki Beach. I rose from my slumber position and pulled on some clothes. Dogs congregated next to the door. The largest, brownest one was making pathetic whining noises as she’s impatient.

Unusually, there was reasonable order as I applied collars with flashing lights to a succession of dogs. We were soon out of the gate and had gone only a few meters when there was excitement and much wagging as The Rug emerged from the darkness.

The sky had some stars but was also quite cloudy so there was little reflected light. There was a stiff, easterly breeze which has continued to blow most of the day. Not a gusty wind but persistent.

We passed the newly-planted tamarisk stumps cut from the more mature trees and buried by the excavator which was dancing around late yesterday afternoon. There have been previous attempts to plant a line of tamarisk along the beach however each has failed because the trees were too small and immature. They were systematically either mown down by vehicles straying onto the beach or as a result of vandalism. The recent attempt should hopefully succeed as mature, strong trunks have been buried deeply into the beach by the excavator. So long as they are watered occasionally and there is no determined vandalism or stupidity, they might survive. Incidentally, the excavator put the tangle of nylon and black plastic found on the beach at Christmas into the rubbish containers and I noticed the collection of mattresses has been removed.

Our walk was energetic and noisy due to the presence of the Rug and the exuberance of Isabella who appears always to enjoy her company. They barked at each other, ran and chased around exhaustingly but were grateful of a short rest when we went back to the van before doing it all over again.

The second walk included a couple of tennis balls to keep Isabella going. She has now developed a trick whereby she can put two balls in her mouth at the same time. However, she is then unable to bark! Bonus! It was getting warmer but still windy at around 09:15 when we went back to the camping.

I managed to feed the dogs before Manolis called to say that Tony was moving the rubbish next to the former canteen van so that Frank’s van could be parked next to his caravan. I’d mentioned this to Manolis the other day and today he wanted to move his boat so persuaded Tony to dispose of the rubbish to facilitate this.

Michaelis and Nikos were putting wooden planks on the awning rafters which have been constructed on T2/3 to provide shade to the decked area. T2 has much more decking than T3.

A customer arrived with a Royal Enfield motorcycle which had been made in India as I don’t think they have been made in UK in ages. He has a tent which he’s erected next to Sonja and Sandra and says he might stay two days.

Otherwise, the day has been fairly uneventful other than Doggy Dins and general wandering around the camping. The sky has been a little cloudy but with plenty of sunshine. The wind should drop so that tomorrow is completely calm however Thursday and Friday are likely to be very windy but warmer according to the forecast.

Today was mild but felt cooler than yesterday due to the wind.
