Crazy Tooth Doctor

The Crazy Tooth Doctor visits Grammeno several times a year including early in the season. I first encountered him because he was using the side of Janne’s trailer to project a TV show for his children. He and his family are here on holiday for a couple of weeks so his children are enjoying their evening entertainment next door. Alike other locals, it seems that quite young children are allowed to stay up late so they’re watching TV at 22:30: past my bedtime at least. Last night I decided to sit outside as it was still warm and they’d come to watch TV. When the father went away the girls turned up the volume which must have delighted everyone. He arrived fairly soon after, turned down the volume and remained to watch the rest of the show. The volume was much lower but the laughter was also quite raucous.

I drifted off to bed with my fan and soon fell asleep. It was another warm night with the outside temperature hovering just under 30ºC. The morning was slightly cooler and there was even a welcome breeze as we walked up the beach. Today was a contrast to the weekend as only one tent was pitched on the Promontory with a single car in the car park. No other vehicles were on the beach or along the road. Other than the tent-dwellers we found a single female runner who disappeared quickly when she saw the dogs. Only Sasha took much interest and went up to her.

I took the girlies after some tea and brain training. We found a bicycle bar bag containing a plate and bowl on the beach. I suspect it was there yesterday. I picked it up on the way back as it’s quite a useful, insulated bag.

There is a travelling PortALoo near to the beach car park. It was delivered at the end of last season at the same time as the other gear, for those with mobility degradation. During the winter, it was attached to the new wooden changing facility with outdoor shower and wooden ramp to the sea. The shower still does not work and the ramp doesn’t quite go to the sea. The chair assist device is standing in ABB’s yard. The PortaLoo seems to spend most of its time laying on its side or wandering around each time the wind blows. Soon, all of the kit will have been there a year yet no one seems to have got it together. I understand from Xanthippos that the Demos (local authority) is not very quick at getting things done and it seems to me like a whole lot of money for something which might be used only very rarely. Doubtless, there was a pot of money so each location was awarded some kit whether they liked it or not.

I went up the mountain and then for a quick swim off Alonaki. The sea was lumpy again and it seems to start to blow harder just as I arrive. Or it could be my imagination. Work still goes on at the new apartments but no name plate or sign of paying customers so far. Perhaps in August.

It was quite warm when I got back so I wasn’t in much of a rush to do anything except dry off after the sea. It was probably nearer lunchtime when the dogs finally ate their breakfast. It was a quiet day as it was almost 38ºC by midday so we were pleased to do nothing too active. I had some IT work to complete for the Inter Sport telecoms changeover in a couple of days.

No other great excitements other than to get an outdoor shower later in the afternoon as there was a build-up of salt which I felt I could do without.

It must be eight as the ceiling fan has just turned itself off so I’d better get something going and feed the dogs. That said, Sasha is busily demolishing a lump of driftwood on the decking and the others seem quite calm about it all.

A very warm and reasonably still start with some light wind during the day.
