Books, Laundry…

It was completely still when I woke up so I jumped out of bed and we were soon off into the darkness. I think it was 05:30.

Only one car was parked in the beach car park and virtually the same collection along the beach road. It was warm enough not to require a shirt which I used for flicking any mosquitoes.

We were soon walking to Plakaki at a decent pace. I was ahead of the dogs to begin with but they soon overtook me. We had some biscuits and then returned to The Promontory for the second round. There was no one camped anywhere I could see but we avoided the most favoured spots just in case. It was still airless as we crossed the rocks and returned to the camping. It was around seven by now so I set straight back out with Isabella and Sasha even though she seemed content to curl up in my chair. Our walk was equally calm and peaceful until we met a man fishing from the rocks. He didn’t seem to mind Sasha woofing at him a couple of times. I wanted to get going so we continued.

I briefly exercised my brain before setting off on my bike. I’ve managed to remember to do my daily brain workout for one year so I now have another award to my collection. I wonder if I will remember every day for the next year…

I went up the mountain in perfect stillness passing a runner and being passed by some pickups, some more smelly than others. I made it to the top and went round the town ending up at Petrakis where I bought the things I forgot yesterday. Then back to the camping via the beach and a quick dip.

Litsa called me but I kept going as I had wet shorts and frozen food. The shorts are now dry and the frozen DD chicken is in the freezer which is jammed. I went via the office to Litsa as Maria wanted something and I wanted plastic wallets. Litsa was packing up sugared almonds for weddings. She only had 1,400 to do. They are traditionally given to the guests. She packs them up for a charity. She and Manolis have been busy making dolmades which are stuffed vine leaves. You cook the vine leaves then carefully lay them out to dry a bit before filling them with a special mixture. As Litsa is of Turkish descent, she uses a Turkish recipe. She also gave my some rice salad which she said didn’t look all that exciting but tasted good. I left her to her almonds and returned to release the dogs.

They had their collars on so were being suitably quiet. I’d taken the remote with me so was able to zap any dog who though the coast might be clear. Keep them guessing! I fed them then made some tea.

Today, I’ve been to the office to find plastic folders for Maria. Litsa has been helping her out and holding the fort so that she can have some free time. I’ve pretty much sorted the invoices and got the bookkeeping in order. I’m sort of feeling my way through the system making changes as I go. It’s much easier to get inventive when you actually use the spreadsheet yourself. I’ve put each supplier’s invoices in plastic folders in date order as it’s almost impossible to work otherwise. I discovered a couple of stragglers whilst up at the office but am still one invoice short for Petrakis.

Bona was struggling with laundry so I took in a bag-full, mostly towels but a few sheets. It dried quickly and is now folded up and left in the bedding store for the two of them to process.

The camping is very busy as is to be expected for a weekend in August. It will remain like this for the next ten or so days. Hopefully, we’ve seen the last of the strong wind for a while.

Still for most of the day with plenty of sunshine but not baking hot.
