Tap Fixed!

I had a busy evening visiting Shetland with Jimmy and Cornwall with Wycliffe. The Wycliffe episode was about an incident on a trawler where a man died and the trawler sank. A subplot was the EC regulations about fishing quotas and throwing back fish which had been caught but were already dead when the quota had been reached. The hardship to the local fishing fleet was equally prominent.

I had another wash to put on at 08:00 which prompted me to get out of bed quickly and ready the dogs for their daily excursion. I’d taken the precaution of leaving everything ready and changing the batteries in Obi’s collar. As expected, the light didn’t turn on so, to save time, I put in some other batteries to be done with it.

It was another bright morning with dwindling moonlight due to the dwindling moon but plenty of stars. Light came quiet early as the eastern sky was clear and bright.

I took the girls on a slightly shorter walk in order to get back in time to put on the washing for the Lithuanian couple who were waiting by the door washing product in hand. I sloped off to Paleochora whilst the machine did its thing, stopping for a loaf and to ask Mr Petrakis Senior if the store would be open on Sunday. I can shop tomorrow which is more convenient.

The wash was not ready as it was at 60ºC so took longer. I fed the animals and made some tea. For some reason, my watch alarm didn’t go off so they waited rather longer for their wash.

I caught up with a little admin as I found myself with a pocket full of money yesterday evening. Fortunately most of it had been allocated but some of the washing machines had not been entered.

I wandered to the office where I discovered a phone bill in the postbox which I proceeded to scan and then send to Maria. I understand she may be coming to Chania during the Christmas Period. I wandered the camping to get involved with trying to get a tyre correctly fitted to the Norwegian mountain bike. He’d improvised the rim tape, the tyres fitted very tightly so seating them correctly was very difficult. Jorma saved the day as he was fixing the tap which we didn’t fix last year as it became too complicated. I had an excuse to slope off to supervise Jorma.

The tap had been screwed to the wall and then wrenched off leaving a missing chunk of wall and paint. It had continued to leak through the summer but would now be fixed. Jorma had started the job but required some assistance. He’d found some wood and chiselled out the cement rendering so that the wool fitted snugly against the wall. Just a matter of fixit it to the wall having removed any loose or flaky paint. Together, we managed to free the tap from the base, turn off the water and affix the new one. Only a hole in the hose pipe prevents it being a perfect job as it only leaks when used rather than all of the time. The concrete path falls toward the women’s facilities making it wet in front of the door. A ridiculous situation. It will be less than a year before I cut back the hose and install a new jubilee clip.

There was one arrival. A Greek couple who own a motorhome rental company near Rethymno. They’re staying for one night and were interested to discover the facilities although they’d been to the camping previously. That way, they’re able to recommend the camping to their customers.

Together, Toni and I poked needles into Georgia’s remaining two dogs. A treatment for Leishmaniasis I suspect.

Another fine day with plenty of people enjoying the beach and the sea. Making hay…
