Anke Returns

I went to bed quite early as I was falling asleep after watching Miss Marple solve a particularly complex series of murders. I woke up early and remained awake which for me is quite unusual. Lack of a snooze during the day I suspect. For some reason, I didn’t hear the alarm so it was nearly five twenty-five when I got up

Our first walk was longer than usual as I had to keep waiting to gather up dogs. There seems to be an unlimited supply of interesting items which draws the dogs to them. Probably following the Christmas gorging of meat and dead animals. It took a while to marshal them and get underway once more.

The second walk started on the Promontory where we met Andreas and his dogs. Shortly after, two more dogs arrived with a German couple I know. Their dogs would find our four rather overwhelming so we opted to walk along Alonaki where we encountered Freddy from The Netherlands with his dog. He’s a bit of a dreamer so doesn’t really take responsibility for his dog. I’ve had to put him straight for allowing the dog to roam the camping off-leash and unsupervised. Freddy has just purchased thirty nights so I need to keep on his case.

We ended up chatting to a lone German with his elderly dog. I’ve seen his VW camper a couple of mornings. He wakes early so was surprised to hear Sasha’s tail beating against the side of his van around five-thirty. He plans to keep travelling for a year or so.

I went back to feed the animals. I decided it was a little late to be riding my bike so would amuse myself topping the carobs until Jan with the Setra, called to ask for the washing machine. I then turned my attention to emptying the rubbish bins and fixing the gas rings in the customer kitchen. It turned out to be the gas cylinder, which was almost new. I swapped it to the other rings and put on a new cylinder. The kind Lithuanian couple gave me a goodie bag containing sweeties and some jam. The previous sweets they gave me looked uninteresting but were anything but! I thanked them warmly and took their rubbish.

Mickey was the next contestant for the washing machine although his load paled into insignificance compared to the previous one which was mostly children’s clothing.

Later, Litsa sent a message asking me to visit so I guessed they’d been fruit picking and was correct. They have given me a large tray of mandarins and lemons. Just I was getting down to the last few lemons too. They had a good Christmas and will return in the New Year. Manolis tried to call Toni but wasn’t able to make contact but I later discovered from Laura that Toni’s in Albania. There is a special line of communication to Anke so I’m sure she’ll update me.

Anke’s caravan is back in the camping. She moved out before the summer to a place on the side of Panorama where there was only water. After spending the first experience of her new life with flushing toilet, hot showers, WiFi and electricity, life must have been pretty tough although it was during the warmer weather. She should find life much easier back here where she knows Frank and Toni well. She will also be looking after the cats once she moves to a more permanent location. I suspect it was around one year ago that she arrived at Grammeno. At least she lasted the winter unlike some who survive less than one month.

The day has been mostly sunny and warm despite a very cloudy and threatening start. The forecast is for stable weather for the following days.

Cloudy but warm and sunny later.
