New Tax Year

I took my coat in case it was a little chilly but left it on the field fence. Yesterday evening, whilst looking for my torch, I remembered my coat had been left hanging over the branch of a Tamarisk tree and was still there. I walked across the field in the moonlight to find the coat still where I’d left it and the torch safely inside the pocket.

Luis was nowhere to be seen and I didn’t want to hold up the others as we’d got off to a good start, so I left him to fend for himself. He didn’t make it to the first checkpoint but had probably gone directly to the second where he found us. The sea was calmer so we’d been able to cross the rocks dry-footed. The walk to Plakaki was quieter too as the sea was only lapping gently on the shore leaving vast swathes of flat, hard sand to walk on. The frogs were also doing well where the river comes down to the sea as were the little insects which live in the grass and trees. Spring is beginning to blossom.

I rode into Paleochora with only a stop at Petrakis for some olive paste which is very tasty spread on bread. Petrakis seemed quite busy and Yiannis was looking very black and yellow in his paddock getup. He told me he’d been so see motor racing from the paddock. I went to see Manolis, the dentist, so have an appointment for 14:30 tomorrow. The ride back was fairly easy although the sky was very cloudy and grey. It certainly wasn’t cold.

I fed the dogs once I’d relaxed my brain but it wasn’t too long before it started to rain. It came down quite determinedly for a while then eased off. There has been little in the way of sunshine as the sky has been overcast all day. Consequently, there has been only 2.25kWh of battery charge so we’re using the Grid this evening.

The couple with the camper van have left to continue their holiday on Crete and then to the Peloponnese before heading homeward. Other than pushing the garbage to the gate with the help of Toni and collecting the recyclables which I’ll put in the container early tomorrow morning, not much else of note.

I fixed up the ceiling fan and light controller. At present, it’s at floor level but needs to go up on the ceiling with a much lighter cable. The present one is a little over the top and is not in a very convenient location at the front of the awning area. The plan is to put some sockets on the other side rather than having an extension cable trailing over the floor. I will also mount a light which I bought ages ago with the intention of using it elsewhere.

Janne just called to ask for help with his gas heating. He’s not used the gas in years and doesn’t have the instructions for his Truma heater. They’ve changed very little over the years as the technology is basic albeit efficient, so long as you’re up for ‘burning stuff’ something I try to avoid. I also gave them my fan heater for the bathroom as it heats up very quickly and doesn’t need to be left on all night. So much for hardy Nordic races! I offered a couple of dogs for heating purposes as Oskar makes a great foot warmer.

More of Manos’ beans with cauliflower and broccoli this evening. No sign of Georgia so far…

Cooler than yesterday but not cold. Grey and overcast all day with showers in the morning and evening
