Robbed!

I was up at 04:30 as I was awake so we were out before five to find a warm but hazy morning with a watery moon and few stars.

Luis dallied as usual but managed to make it to Plakaki and back without undue distraction. Almost the same vans were parked along the track however the German one was replaced by an interesting Austrian one. A little like something out of Mad Max.

I wanted to get some shopping so rode into Paleochora stopping at Petrakis. I stopped at the post office to pick up the package which the postman had told me about. There was 9.45€ to pay as it was a phone holster for my iPhone which I couldn’t buy other than in UK or US. As UK is now a nightmare, I decided US would be better.

I mentioned to the clerk that I’d paid 2.99€ to ELTA online the previous day. He told me that I should never pay online, only at the post office counter. I paid for the package and left. I knew I’d need to pay duty when I placed the order.

Bona called to tell me some customers were waiting but they’d left by the time I arrived. They didn’t call me directly so were probably not that interested. Frank was waiting to pick up his barrow which he uses to collect water from a nearby tap. I suspect he’s beginning to find out how easy life can be when you’re in the camping: toilets, water, hot showers, postal deliveries, WiFi, washing machine etc etc…

The French couple, who left a couple of days previously, came back for one night so didn’t have to pay as they’d already paid for four nights the previous stay. They left taking Helmut Krapmeier, the elderly walker from the previous evening, with them. He’s over seventy and walking the E4 along the coast to the east. The E4 follows the road to Paleochora so doesn’t make for exciting walking.

I had DDs to construct and tea to make after feeding the dogs. The remainder of the morning passed gently by other than to collect money from the German couple who almost left this evening. They only came for two nights seven, now eight nights ago. They are visiting southern England in August so I suggested visiting Brighton and Lewes and sent them some links. They are also going to Scotland so I thought a trip to Snowdonia National Park on the way back might be a bonus. Maybe they will leave tomorrow…

Georgia asked me to come to eat with the staff later as she was cooking beans! There are now more staff as two young ladies have appeared presumably to help in the bar/restaurant. Georgia told me there would be some office help arriving ‘soon’ and that Maria would arrive early in June. I checked the latter information with Maria who confirmed it was fantasy and that she’d be at the camping around 25 June if all goes well. That includes two days travel!

I processed the DDs having fallen asleep in the sun and put on a wash for the Dutch guy next to the UK couple. It seems that Anke is back in town but has asked me to hang onto the pussies for a month or so more whilst she finds accommodation which I feel may be problematic as we approach the expensive summer season.

We ate and I excused myself on the premise of emptying the washing machine. I’m afraid I don’t find it terribly interesting sitting around listening to people talk rubbish whilst smoking, and drinking retsina. The Dutch guy was suitably grateful and we talked about the pussies who’ve made friends with him and the UK couple.

Later, I received a message on my watch confirming I’d just authorised a payment of 469€ for some audio equipment so I contacted N26 and cancelled my card. I then remembered the online payment of 2.99€ to ELTA, the postal service, the previous day. I contacted N26 support and encountered a very helpful and supportive agent. She took information about the previous day’s antics to help thwart the perpetrators of this phishing attempt and card fraud. Fortunately, I’d made screenshots of the bogus website which I used to translate the text into English. Hopefully, I’ll receive a replacement card promptly and the bank will repay the money.

The good news is that the belt holster from Encased in US is compatible with my Mous case so I’ll be able to carry my phone when wearing shorts during the summer.

Cooler than yesterday as predicted but it wasn’t windy. There is the possibility of a shower tomorrow which hopefully will not coincide with my hour-long dental appointment at 12:30 tomorrow.
