More Cleaning!

I watched ITVX as I munched some fingers and potatoes with some long, thin chips thrown in. Having watched a lot of YouTube over the summer I thought I’d give ITVX a go to see if that handled our congested network better than BritBox. I was pleased to watch an episode of Young Sheldon which I’d not seen followed by the first episode of TBBT which I didn’t recall watching. My next choice was The Dog House Australia which was good fun to see people receiving a new pet and the pet a wonderful home. It was time for bed so I retired to my boudoir having suitably arranged the dogs. Only Maya and Obi stayed out.

It felt quite warm as I stepped outside even though the AC was blowing very gently. It took a little longer to get going in the morning as I insisted on the dogs settling down before leaving the van or the gate into the field.

A large Volvo was parked just before CBV’s entrance and a few cars in the car park. There were a few more vans and cars along the track but few for a Sunday morning which is usually the busiest.

A couple of surprised men were besieged by the dogs as we crossed the rocks. The dogs probably thought it was Kostas but no car was parked nearby although he also has a motorcycle. The men didn’t seem to be too phased by a group of colourfully flashing dogs at 04:45. I should imagine they were fishing as it was a little early for sunbathing.

The little dog belonging to the Dutchman barked as we walked quietly past their van and tent. A voice called out for it to ‘shut up’ so he has an English-speaking dog. We made it to Azzuro and back. The men had gone and there were no FreeLoaders of any kind that we saw.

The only delay was for Obi and Maya to catch up. My fault really as I’d not followed up on them when we left Azzuro. They were along the beach a long way back but not up to no good as far as I could make out. I waited for them providing some gentle stimulus to encourage speed and not repeat the action. Meanwhile, Sasha and Isabella were unloading the content of a large, black rubbish bag in the waste bin, onto the ground. I only became aware of this during the second walk once it was light. They watched as I picked up the rubbish to put it back into the bin.

Isabella didn’t find her ball as we were leaving so I didn’t bother to bring the thrower. Miraculously, she found one as we crossed the field but got bored as I wouldn’t throw it without the thrower. It’s abandoned on the Promontory but will doubtless be rediscovered in due course. Otherwise, our walk was rapid and uneventful.

I paused for an hour or so then rode to Paleochora for a wander around and to make sure it was still there. Which it was. I stopped at Alonáki on the way back where I had a quick swim as there were lumps in the water due to a slight wind blowing to the shore. Others were swimming or soaking up the sunshine. I waited a little while to dry off then retuned to the dogs for biscuits and tea after a quick shower.

I sat and drank my tea whilst performing some gentle, Sunday morning IT tasks at Inter Sport. Then degenerated into a moribund state as the day warmed up.

I have been active as I took down the roof light to clean it, moved the AC compressor back a little and took down the tools left on the roof from the installation day. The roof light fits properly now the AC unit is further back. All the tools are together in the bag which will soon be relocated out of the way until the next AC installation.

I put a broom through the rear of the van followed by the vacuum which is so full it no longer picks up as well as weighing a lot. The head fell off my trusty mop which I shall replace during my next Petrakis visit. The handle is still operational but will also be replaced. I go mad with these hi-tech cleaning aids.

At present, only Oskar is inside as I threw the others out so I could clean. Oskar was happy to remain at the front which also requires some attention. The floor is now clean for at least five minutes and I’ve been looking to buy some more floor covering as the present was showing wear when I bought the van twelve years ago. To say it’s done well is an understatement. Luis has systematically chewed up the area next to the door during his frustration to get out. The section around the handbrake has received similar attention as he vainly tried to access some rodent in one of the crevices under the floor. All of the carpet at the front has long gone with just sound deadening material left.

I noticed customers packing up as I rode back this morning and suspect that this marks the beginning of the end. However, with the Yoga Group for one more week, it will be busy until next Sunday. Soon, there will be no need for tents next to me so they can all be put away for the winter!

We shall begin the gentle transition from summer to winter season. I have one hopefully, long-stay customer at least and Gabi and Manfred, who has just received a clean bill of health from the doctor. They are a great couple who’ve spent years on Crete so know everyone. They should also have some friends joining them for a week or so. The other customer is Mickey who plans to arrive in October. I suspect I shall have control before then as there will be no desire to pay someone to sit in reception past the end of September unless perhaps at weekends.

Just dogs to feed, food to collect and eat then a quiet Sunday evening watching TV
