Strange Weather

I spoke briefly to Anna, who will be leaving tomorrow for Athens and a security job until she finds something more suitable. Petra then presented me with my container which had Gigantes and oven potatoes filling it up nicely. This, together with some salad was my evening meal accompanied by an episode of The Gentle Touch, a London-based police drama with a female lead detective whose husband died in the line of duty. This was followed by the first of Ten Pound Poms.

The night was a little crazy as I woke up feeling quite cool so decreased the speed of the fan to feel too warm later. When we went out it was positively hot as I was walking back from Azzuro paddling in the surf and carrying my T-shirt. The morning before, I was wearing a polo-shirt with a fleece on top. For the second walk, I put my T-shirt on because the wind had changed and I felt cold!

A car passed us at 04:35 as we were crossing the road. It drove to the end of the car park and later, the driver was performing some fishy task on the sea shore.

It seemed never to get light this morning even though there was little cloud and plenty of stars. Just that the mornings are getting lighter later I suppose. The moon should be back with us for the beginning of October.

Coming back from Azzuro the second time, I noticed another car had arrived in the car park. We didn’t find the driver who I think was probably fishing.

Oskar came with the girls on the second walk which was as energetic as usual. I noticed there is a fine crop of Sea Daffodils this year and am finding it difficult to walk on the tracks and the sand without risking treading on the shoots poking through. I also noticed the thin poker-like flowers have sprung up during the past few days. These events have probably been helped by the rain and cooler weather at the beginning of the month. It will be interesting to see what the winter brings.

I paused, before riding to Paleochora for bread and groceries. There had been a problem at the bakery as the only bread they had was brown which was fine by me. They were in the process of catching up and the server told the customer in front of me to return in an hour. Petrakis wasn’t too busy so I was soon on my way back to Grammeno.

I’d started the DDs but finished it off after feeding the dogs. Then it was time for some more tea and a gentle morning of quiet festering. I took down the washing and folded everything up. Now it’s just a matter of finding somewhere to put it all.

The neighbours plus guest eventually went out to Sougia so I took the opportunity to prepare the doggy rice and to go for a swim as I’d done the day before.

The sky had clouded over but the sun did its best to make an effort as I paddled out to the buoy and back. I was looking for it only to discover I was right next to it. As yesterday, the sea was flat calm so ideal conditions for swimming. I lay in the sun for a little while then came back for a shower and a snooze to get over the huge exertion of swimming for a whole twenty minutes.

I have yet to process the DDs but the rice is ready and sitting in the pot so we’re almost there.

Better get on with it as the troops are becoming restless!

Cooler than yesterday although the night was warm. The temperature variations during the night were interesting. Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday are predicted to be warmer although we never made it to the predicted high of 30ºC for today. The sky suddenly clouded over around two leading to a steep decline in PV production.
Rollercoaster night temperatures!
