Windy!

Petra was attending a family funeral in Athens so Eva served me a container-full of fingers AKA Okra or μπάμια. The kitchen had not had a good day with only simple orders. I disappeared to heat up my okra and then eat it with a little Life On Mars.

Sandra sent a text to say they would stay over in Chania and arrive in the morning. I suggested this was a good idea as it was windy making setting up their tent quite difficult.

I closed the van door due to the wind but it subsided during the night to provide quite a calm start to the day. We’d not been out long before the wind strengthened and I noticed the dogs heading towards the field as we were walking from the Promontory for the second time. I put Oskar, Obi and Luis back in the van, fed Moggy and set off with the girls to find Skinny. He’d been far ahead so’d not been notified of the change of plan but was waiting on the track. He came with us to Azzuro but then disappeared to be found back at the van later. He’s not much of a fan of strong wind.

Meanwhile, we visited the Promontory for ball exercise however Isabella had mislaid the two balls she’d set out with. After vain attempts to not find them, I produced a backup ball from my pocket so they could rush around a little. It was now quite windy so I decided cycling would not be on the menu so I stayed with the doggies.

I released those from inside and fed them as I’d already prepared the DDs and put them in the pot on a timer as I knew there was little battery remaining. Better to wait for the sun to shine rather than take electricity from the grid.

I replied to a text from Hans and Erica who were here earlier in the year with their motorhome. They are in Italy at present. There were a few other administrative tasks and then I fiddled around with EMON again making interesting graphs.

Marisa asked if I had the key to the mailbox as she could see an invoice stuffed inside but couldn’t find the key. I went up to open the box with my key and show here which one it is. She told me Sonja and Sandra had just arrived so it went down to welcome them.

Sonja has a bug so was not feeling that bright however she showed me their new motorhome to replace Paula. He is called Bruno. The van is on a VW Crafter chassis, looks very good and has a rear lounge layout with a decent over-cab area for sleeping. At present, they own two vans! Bruno is certainly a step up from Paula with more accommodation and seating area.

I left them to erect their tent and went back to the dogs. I had a conversation with Tonya who worked (briefly) in the reception last year. Apparently, she’d met up in Athens with Anna who helped Bona last year and this. She is doing well and sent me some of her latest creations.

I returned to Sandra and Sonja to discover that Sandra had left her insulin in the fridge at the hostel where they stayed last night. She was planning to drive to Chania and back to get it however I suggested we might try to find someone to bring it. Maria is planning to contact one of her colleagues who comes from Chania to the school in Kantanos so that Sandra has only to drive there and back. She does not need the insulin until morning anyway. From what I recall, she uses a pump so only needs to charge it up every so often. I think she is type two.

I left her to tend to Sonja and returned once again to the dogs. By this time, the wind had strengthened significantly so I’m getting blown around sitting here in the sun and not behind the sail shade. There it’s less windy but also more shady.

The DDs finished cooking but require processing however the rice is absorbing quietly in the pot. The dogs started to tell me it was teatime around three!

I’d better get on with it and it’s not a lot of fun with the wind so strong.

Today’s weather
Conveniently quieter between 02:00 – 06:00.
The girls didn’t mind and I threw the ball with the wind.
