Exodus

I woke before the hour change as I put a clock nearby which wouldn’t change on its own. A couple of hours later, Maya barked at some ferocious would-be intruder. It was 04:05 so I let Iera in. No point in going back to bed so I got dressed as most of my clobber was out on the decking having been taken off the line after a trip to the washing machine.

The yappy dog was still present which I knew from the car in the car park. Only a couple of other motorhomes spread along the beach track.

The moon was bright but further down in the sky than I expected but we were out an hour later than Saturday. Walking to Azzuro was easy except for the last bit of the track as a Greek man and his dog were parked where the road descends onto the beach.

There was some noise but the man was awake anyway. I called my lot away and we continued down to Azzuro and the rocks. I could see that Azzuro is properly closed as the furniture is all stacked up inside and protected for the winter ahead. The chairs and umbrellas from Alonáki Beach and Grammeno Beach have been taken in too. Only those from the businesses at the Houmas end of the beach remain.

We walked back following the shoreline for a while to avoid more fuss with the Van Dog then moved up to the track, along the Promontory and back to the camping.

I put the boys inside, fed Moggy and set off again with the four girls. It was starting to get light as we walked along the shoreline back to Azzuro. We had lots more throwing on the way out and back and there was a little fuss from the Van Dog. Probably as he/she wanted a piece of the action.

We didn’t go back onto the Promontory due to Yappy Dog and the excited racket made by Iera when we play ball. More racing around and then back to the camping for me to ride into Paleochora for some bread, a cabbage and some rather battered bananas. This was the last Sunday opening for Petrakis until the weekend before Christmas.

I came back, fed the dogs and went to check-out my departees. I started with the UK couple as they wanted some ideas about places to visit. I took their money then went on to see the two German couples who also wished to pay. Both plan to go to Elafonissi for a few days and I think the English will too as I suggested it as a possibility as well as Balos, Maléme, Chania, Knossos, etc, etc.

One of the German couples may return to spend more time at the camping nearer Christmas. I pointed out they can be instantly reactivated and they will receive a better rate if they stay long enough.

I sorted out the German/Austrian couple from last evening who moved to the space vacated by the British. They are considering staying a month too.

Lucy, from The Netherlands, went out shopping in her van so there was quite a bit of shuffling of vans. She later returned and I positioned her van for her as she was a little hesitant. She is now the new guardian of the Grammeno Bike kindly bequeathed to the camping by Steffanie who has not further use for it. She will not be coming to Crete for long periods as she now looks after her demented brother.

I managed a cup of tea and fell asleep as it was warm and sunny. The dogs had remained mostly quiet during my prolonged absences.

Bona called for some Hell as she was cleaning toilets, bathrooms and the kitchen. I messed around with cabin keys in the reception then sat on a lounger looking as the sea a while.

I had the overwhelming urge to make some more meters even though I don’t have any sockets which I’ll get tomorrow whilst in town. This kept me busy and I’ve completed two except for the sockets. I’m still thinking about the best solution for the Lamp Pole.

With the change in time, I’m all confused as the day seemed to rush by. It’s good to have less darkness in the morning but I’d be happier if we stopped changing times twice a year as it’s annoying.

Lots of beans and greenery tonight, some TV and then to bed as 22:00 will come much earlier. We need to get used to darker evenings.

Another slightly cloudy start but plenty of moonlight which makes progress much quicker. The day was cooler than yesterday but sunny and warm with a strong southerly breeze in the afternoon.
