Holiday Weekend

Perry Mason and his team solved a complicated murder. As usual, everything was revealed in court at the end. I grazed YouTube for the remainder of the evening before retiring to my boudoir.

Maya was trying to convince me it was time to get up and go for a walk at 03:00. I persuaded her that an hour or so more in bed would be my preferred choice.

I’d left a load of sheets in the machine from the night before so took them out to replace them with a large blanket which had been visited by cats during the winter. It was then that we went for our first walk up the Promontory and to Azzuro and back twice. It was a pleasant, clear morning so I could easily see the sweet which can be eaten between meals. There was some excitement as I was crossing the rocks with different coloured flashing lights bounding in all directions. Probably a cat or escaped tiger. The dogs came back empty-handed.

I took out the blanket and hung it out to dry before taking the girls and Skinny out onto the Promontory where we met Nina and her bears as well as Nicky the Spanish woman sitting near the water’s edge. She’d said she’d like to meet the dogs which she did. We demonstrated ball-chasing and leaping into the sea. The two women went back for coffee taking the bears.

I rode straight to Anatoli as I assumed I’d get enough exercise walking around the camping later. I stopped at Petrakis where I bought carrots for the DDs as well as other important things such as cat and dog food. Not forgetting Hell for Bona. This has since been delivered and carefully stacked in the storeroom and not down at the bar. I had a little moan… I didn’t get back to the camping until well after nine despite the shorter trip. Very short as my watch appears to have been with me for only half of the journey.

Quite a few customers had booked including a group of twenty comprising five families. They are scattered around the camping as there isn’t enough accommodation of the type they want in one place. As of seven, they or a group representative, have not put in an appearance. I shall be more than quite annoyed should they arrive at 23:00 expecting me to conduct them to their accommodation with a smile on my face. All the other bookings have checked-in. Bona will be less than impressed if she’s had to make up all of those rooms for nothing especially as she’s having problems with her new front teeth. I gave her some sea salt and suggested she rinse out her mouth with it later. I expect she has some form of infection.

My day included lots of wandering around but at least I got to have an Eco Shower as Yiannis came to fix the solar boiler. I’d mentioned it was leaking water when I was up there with Toni, but what do I know? The electric heating element has since been replaced together with the gaskets. No more leaking so plenty of hot water.

Georgia called to say that informants had reported government inspectors at large in Paleochora. I imagine they have enough to do there so won’t bother with Grammeno. I’m always on the lookout for strangers anyway so am happy to plead insanity to put them off the scent. I’m just a customer, I don’t work here…

I understand Nina, Lucia and Betty have gone by boat to Paleochora with Korel. I’m interested to know how they plan to come back as the carnival proper doesn’t kickoff until the evening. I can hear the music from here!

Lucia is leaving soon so this morning I volunteered to drive her van out of the camping and as far as the main road to Chania as she lacks the confidence to tackle the steep, winding road which avoids larger vehicles going through Paleochora. I’ll shove my old bike in the back and ride back. I’ll check her tyres and levels before she goes too. I think she’d struggle a little if she ran into difficulties on her own. Her van is quite big for someone who is not a confident driver. It’s quite a long way to The Netherlands when you have animals on board.

I shall be glad when I’ve seen the last of this weekend’s visitors although the two chaps who drove from Iraklion are interesting to talk to. One of them is a very outdoors type and was camping in -10ºC recently. However, he’s not fond of thunderstorms when in a tent so is happy to put his sleeping bag in one of the small cabins.

I had a telephone enquiry for accommodation but sadly, we didn’t have any accommodation for two with AC. Or do we…?

Following a chilly but clear start, the day was sunny and warm however some dark clouds are hanging over the mountains. There are warnings of thunderstorms but I expect they will confine themselves to the mountains if at all. There is the possibility of some precipitation late morning.
