Independence Day

I watched Frost who was supposed to be going on holiday. The combination of a car accident which debilitated some senior police officers and the abduction and murder of two young boys meant he was needed. It was only nearer the end that I remembered who the perpetrator was. I watched interesting videos on YouTube until bedtime.

I beat the alarm by a couple of minutes so was on the way out of bed having quickly checked the weather. We were out of the gate by 04:50 and on the way to the rocks under a cloudy and partially lit sky. The moon was competing with the clouds occasionally winning. I’m not sure if the tents were still there as I didn’t look. It was getting light as we came back after the second walk to Azzuro. In one week the clocks go forward so it will mean dark mornings for a while.

Skinny declined another trip out with the girls so it was just the four of us. We met up with the Bulgarian guy whose son lives in UK. He told me that he’s seventy-two, has trouble with his leg and cannot find work. It probably explains why he goes for a walk before seven on a holiday Monday.

I rode over Panorama with a stop for bread then back against the southwesterly wind. My batteries took a bit of a beating this morning as it was sometimes hard going in exposed locations.

I dropped bread to Lucia for the penultimate time and promised to return later to give her vehicle a quick check over as she’s leaving tomorrow morning.

I fed the dogs, washed up and made tea before sitting down for a rest. The sky was a little cloudy but there were sunny intervals.

I went to collect money from the couple in Ξ1. They are thinking of moving to UK as he is a vet but not well remunerated. I suggested the southeast might be a good spot. He is a domestic vet but I don’t know what she does. They will be coming back before the summer.

The guy in Ξ5 called to say he was leaving but he paid on arrival. The other couple will leave tomorrow. Jamie has gone to meet his mummy who will arrive this evening at Chania airport. They will come here on Wednesday so he says.

I checked Lucia’s van so there are fewer worries for her as she leaves tomorrow for Castelli and the ferry early on Wednesday morning. She has been here since October so we will miss her presence. I suspect Nina and Korel will leave at the end of the month for another trip and the Spanish called to say they will go on Sunday. They arrived in December and have been camping through the winter.

A guy called me from reception enquiring about one of the cabins. I went to speak with him but he really needed somewhere with more space and privacy so I suggested he swap his rental car for a camper and go to Gavdos.

The dogs eventually got fed so are now inside asleep. I’m eating Lucia’s beans and potatoes as she will dine with Nina and Korel. A pleasure I declined due to important engagements elsewhere.

I shall now pull up the drawbridge and hope for a quiet evening.

Warmer than yesterday with intermittent sunshine with some wind and cloudy skies. The next couple of days might be warmer. The weather remains unsettled.
