Winds gusting to 93.4km/h yesterday

But today it is almost calm.

My German neighbours have just left to continue their journey. We phoned earlier to find out what time the vet is open so that they can get their puppy a Pet Passport for the trip to Italy. They are going to Chania and then to Kissamos where they will catch the ferry back to the mainland. From there, Patras to Italy and then Sardinia. They say they will come back in September to help press the grapes for the winter wine. Vagelis likes to get around 500kg of grapes to make wine, Retsina and Raki but they need pressing so plenty of feet are required.
Lunch yesterday was with Georgia, Vagelis and Costas in the warden’s residence. More conversations about marketing the camping and a progression of where I can put my van in the camping during the summer. Georgia’s friend owns the land adjacent to the camping so the suggestion is to create a separate fenced off area in part of that space so that I can have a bit of ground to myself. The idea is to have space for the dogs to be out on their own all the time. She was also talking about providing an inside toilet with hot and cold running water! Vagelis is up for being my neighbour as he prefers to live in Georgia’s caravan rather than to occupy a room in the reception block. It looks as though we are going to create our own separate annexe away from the riffraff. Vagelis has a dog too so he needs something for him too. At this time of year, he can wander the camping but later this will no longer be an option. Vagelis is not much of a land person and prefers to be on the sea in a boat or under the sea diving and catching things to eat. I suspect he is not really very keen on living in a house so the caravan is the next best thing to being in a boat.

During lunch, we had a call from Janne who was here with his wife at Christmas. They have a caravan in the camping which is here permanently – their’s is posh and new, surrounded by decking and they even have a storage shed for all their bits and pieces. They are planning a bathroom and outside shower for this summer I understand. Janne is arriving on Wednesday evening so Georgia will meet him from the airport and then he will stay over at Georgia’s flat in Chania as, the following day, they will go together to buy a car for him so that he doesn’t have to rent one each time they come on holiday. His wife will be following later as she is a teacher so can only come in the school holidays.

So now I am the only camper on the site again. The neighbours were staying only three days when they arrived but left after ten!
