Just to say we are home

Glad to hear you are back safe and sound. I hope you had a good time away.

No great excitements here other than the camping is quite busy with lots of people coming and going. There are new Greek neighbours with bicycles and a tent. They arrived yesterday evening as the sun was setting. Boris barked at them a bit but they were not easily deterred.
There was a UK family at the supermarket checking out in front of me this morning. They seemed to have enough stuff to feed an army however they had at least four children so that is almost an army. The lady tried to pay with a card which I thought was amusing. I can’t think there are many places in Greece rushing to accept cards at present. I don’t think it’s too hard to get money from the ATM but have not tried to get any for a few weeks so don’t know for certain.
Reading in the BBC News yesterday it appears that the influx of refugees into Greece is not that far behind Italy. They are coming to the nearest Greek islands to Turkey namely Lesbos, Chios and Kos – mostly from Syria Iraq and Afghanistan. The UK stance on immigrants is perhaps politically understandable but as UK was part of the problem I feel it’s irresponsible to not wish to deal with the consequences. The money spent in putting up fences and policing the ports might be better spent dealing with the problem of those displaced and forced to live in squalor. Considering Greece has enough going on already economically and politically, they are still trying to manage the situation as best they can although already lacking in resources to do so. Whereas UK, one of the richer of the EU countries, is doing little other than building barriers.
