Filtered water again

I was sitting quietly when Antonis showed up bearing a double water filter housing. I may have mentioned that the original filter I brought from UK split a week or so ago. He is busy as usual but managed to find the time to go to the plumbers for me to pick up the filter.

I decided to do the filter change-over when I came back from the supermarket. I’ve not been there since last Tuesday so had run out of most things. My fridge is now full again with plenty of olives and toursi.

The new filter housing is a double one meaning it is possible to fit two filter elements, one in each chamber. This will mean that one will filter out the lumpy bits and whilst the other will remove other nasty things from the water such as chlorine and pesticides. Not very keen on either of these. I have descaled my kettle so should now be able to enjoy a more scale-free life from now on.

There was no moon whatsoever this morning but still plenty of reflected light so a torch was unnecessary. I felt it was cooler than the past few days and had resorted to a sheet all night long! We watched the sun rise. The dogs chased around and Boris ran after his ball. There were no fishing boats to be seen or any larger ships on the horizon. I can also report that there is a problem with the light on the small island just outside Paleochora harbour and I suspect a lamp change might be in order. It didn’t look its normal self. Fortunately the red position lights on the two highest radio towers are still not working but the one on the lower tower is. If you happen to be flying along the southwest coast of Crete at a low level in the dark, watch out as you may bump into a radio mast.

I decided to rob Janne and Erica’s Bougainvillea of a couple of twigs for cuttings. The plant seems to be doing ever so well and is blooming like there is no tomorrow! I have been watering it faithfully each evening however I have read that it should only be watered when the surface soil is dry as they thrive in dry conditions. I shall rearrange my watering program accordingly.

A small woof from behind reminds me that Pea was making quite a racket when I returned from the supermarket earlier. I told him off but only a few minutes later, he did it again. Such insolence from a dog as small as him cannot be tolerated so I chased him around the SDC with a hose a couple of times.

Dave’s fan club is going back to Athens today. Her name is Athena as it happens. She is a therapist specialising in acupuncture she told me last night.

For a change today, the wind is from the southwest so not howling around my ears as the building is in the way. The top temperature is 33.6C and still 30C as I write this at 18:22.

Ursula, Tony and Heidi left their home in France to start their journey southwards towards Ancona in Italy. They are taking their time and Ursula has booked them into a series of dog-friendly hotels. Once at Ancona they will catch the ferry to Patras before driving to Athens where they will stay with Tony’s sister and husband. From there to Piraeus and the ferry to Crete at the beginning of September.

Other than a few little IT jobs, it’s been rather a quiet day. I suspect that may change seeing as Luis and Princess are playing together under my chair. Luis is incapable of playing, or doing most things, quietly.

The dogs have just been fed. I am feeding them only once per day at the moment and they are not even eating what I put down. Some of them…
