Princess!

A very enjoyable early walk without rain, wind or trauma. A few stars and Venus but it’s a bit late to see much at 05:45 especially now we have the moon again. It looked particularly attractive with its reflected light over the calm sea. We went over the rocks and onto the cliffs and all around. It was a beautiful morning.

The Austrian Defender couple came to reception to pay last night but didn’t have sufficient cash when informed that the card machine was ‘not working’. They decided to go to Paleochora the following morning to do some shopping so would go to the cash machine to make a withdrawal at the same time.

This morning, they returned from their shopping sometime around 08:30, I took their money and gave back their passport. They left to spend time at Elafonissi.

I wandered Dave around the camping to see who was where but couldn’t make out if the Germans, who were part of the family with the two vans, had arrived. I later discovered that they had and they were there. There is a bit of a communication breakdown between Maria and I, however, Olivia seems to know what is going on. She cleaned everything yesterday, all the cabins and all the statics. Didn’t she do well.?Just as it should be. People arrive and you show them to their accommodation. Job done!

I did washing last night which I hung up at bedtime. It was mostly dry by this morning. This morning, I washed all my bedding. The bedding and one pillow filled the washing machine but everything was dry quite quickly in the bright sun. As time went on, it became more cloudy so I thought it might even rain!  It was all dry by afternoon so I put on the Winter Bed this evening. All nice and clean so I’ll need to train another group of Little Creatures for the next few months. The strain of it!

I spoke briefly to Stellios, the son of Sofia whose family owns the camping. He is here for the olives and says there will be a good harvest this year. We talked about dogs amongst other things. He told me that one of his dogs was fatally injured by wolves and had to be put down. He has a number of sizeable dogs at his factory in Alexandroupolis. Apparently, the wolves are now protected so have become more numerous. They are also brave and venture into the towns and villages.

I decided to do something with beans today so soaked some lentils and black-eyed beans. There were already chickpeas in the fridge which I cooked on Saturday. I boiled up the beans and lentils and left them cooking whilst I took out the dogs. I also prepared the next stage which included some tomatoes in a packet, not purée but mashed up, some garlic, mixed herbs, half an onion, green pepper and some pepper. Once the beans were cooked I chucked it all together and it has been on a low heat for quite a while. It smells quite attractive and I’m leaving it to settle having turned out the heat. There is quite a lot of it so will consume the remainder another day.

The high today is 24.3C and the low 13.6C. It was 14C inside the van when we got back about 07:00. The forecast is for 12C although it seems warmer. The doggies might find it a bit chilly.

Princess failed to return after the walk and led me on a merry dance around the camping. Barking at the Albanians and also Stellios. She finally gave in as I was setting off for my shower. Olivia must not have put on the water heater as it was less than hot. Princess is now confined to the small cat box on the decking and will remain attached during walks until further notice. She appears to be the Minnie replacement as regards going AWOL on walks.

Time for my latest creation methinks.
