Chucking it down outside!

It wasn’t raining when I got up although the sky was extremely dark. Boris played with his ball but I hastened to the running part of the outing. Boris doesn’t do running, gets bored quickly and then wanders off. Attaching him to the tree on guard duty is the way.

We ran and didn’t get wet, puffed but not wet. I decided to make a dash for the camping as black clouds approached. We got back without getting wet but only just. As I was feeding Dave, down came the rain so I stayed put until it eased up. I fed the others then took Mickey and Five for a brisk walk around the block. I knew that, if Dave were there, the rain’d come and we’d be caught like rats in a trap. We got back just before the next downpour.

It was Janne and Erica’s first morning so I wanted to keep the dogs as quiet as possible. I had a cup of tea and decided a trip to Paleochora was unnecessary. One huge benefit of not eating a loaf of bread each day is not having to worry about getting the daily fresh loaf. I really wonder how I managed to eat a 500gm loaf in a day. How don’t I feel hungry only eating fruit for breakfast? But I don’t and I’ve not wanted anything else all day.

Later, I took Dave, Five and Mickey on a proper walk down to the end of the Promontory and back. My eye was always on the clouds but at that time it was sunny and warm. It’s been a strange day. Bucketing rain one minute followed by sunny spells. The secret is not to get caught out in the not-so-sunny spells!

We all enjoyed our walk and I pegged Mickey outside in the sun whilst Five wandered at will. Mickey seemed content with his lot until I took him back in before the next downpour.

Xanthippos appeared muttering something about keys to the bar and wanting a fridge. All the fridges are in the upper storeroom so I have no idea what he was on about. He wandered off not mentioning that he wouldn’t return and I could walk dogs as I pleased without risk of bumping into him.

I took the Happy Trio onto the beach in the early afternoon and we also went half-way up the Promontory. I was conscious of the preceding day’s dampness so was reluctant to venture too far. Janne and Erica were playing with a small tent, destined to be their porch. The roof of their over-van covering is quite high so rain at any angle falls on the decking. Their decking is laid groove-side up so water has to be swept off the wood. The presence of Mickey so close to the SDC caused a certain amount of excitement helped by Mickey responding to the barking from within. Despite that, we managed a reasonably sensible conversation.

Evening approached, the towering clouds were arriving thick-and-fast so it was a case of do we go or don’t we. Wet dogs in the morning is a lot less of a problem than wet dogs in the evening. We went on an express walk which comprised an accelerated pace as far as the car park and then quite a bit of running as far as then end. The dogs are all able-bodied so can run quite well. Even Boris for the first km or so.

We were back before any rain, they were fed and put to bed without incident. A rumble of thunder decided me to put Boris into the storeroom for the night. Yesterday’s performance I could do without a repeat! As it turns out, the thunder has disappeared. Just my luck. Anyway, he’s probably fine in the storeroom.

A reasonably hot shower before feeding and tucking up Five and Mickey after a quick once-around-the-camping. On the last leg, it suddenly poured, so we sheltered under Manolis’ boat before making a dash for Maria’s room where they are staying. The room looks reasonably tidy now as I swept up the chewed-up foam from the mat so generously left by Georgia or Maria for their comfort. They have a couple of blankets which I have folded up so at to get them off the tiled floor.

My timer tells me my rice is ready…
