The come: they go

The forecast for yesterday, at the beginning of the day, was for 4mm rain during the 24 hour period from 07:00. Things deteriorated and the rain began around midday, softly at the beginning. I didn’t take any convincing to cancel the Evening Walk as it was raining heavily by that time. Around 17:00, I fed the dogs and adjourned inside to listen to the rain against the metal roof above. By the end of the day 31.2mm rain had fallen. There was a further 1.3mm this morning which put paid to any viewing of interesting lunar events.

The walk was dry and started around 07:00 by the time I got out of bed. I wasn’t asleep just not too enthusiastic about going out into the cold and damp. The reality was that the sand was wet but it was not as cold as I expected. We walked, mostly in daylight. Watched the sunrise, walked along the rocks, then returned to the camping. I had some little IT tasks to attend to so dealt with those before setting off for my run. The roads were wet but not flooded as I’d expected. I then did my core training before a shower and breakfast.

The morning was interrupted by visits from Xanthippos who was determined to show me how well they were getting on with trimming the trees. Many of the trees by the small cabins (Ξ3 – Ξ6) have been trimmed as have some opposite the sliding-gate entrance to the beach. I’d only just settled back to what I was doing when Xanthippos came to the gate, this time to tell me customers had arrived. Another young German couple in a motorhome, with a small child. They have setup shop next to Claudia and Helmut and their two cats. Their motorhome is sizeable so getting it into position must have been entertaining. I went down to make sure they were connected up to the electricity and that they knew where everything is. They have paid for a week but will hopefully stay a lot longer.

As I was about to leave to walk the dogs, Claudia and Helmut returned in their hire car. Apparently, they paid 200€ for an eight-day hire of a reasonably elderly small car which seemed expensive to me. They are using it to go on excursions. I have asked them to move their van tomorrow morning so that the nearby trees can be trimmed.

I took the dogs for the Evening Walk and we were back just as it was getting dark. During the day, Xanthippos was doing the clearing up after the guy with the chainsaw. He cleared up well in most places except in front of T3. I discovered this as I walked down with the dogs. Hopefully, he’ll be more efficient tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s weather is forecast fine however the situation changes on Wednesday.

So far, since October, we’ve had 426.3mm precipitation which, as you can see below, is more than the previous three year’s yearly precipitation. Since October, there have been 49 rain days which is more than the 47 rain days in the whole of the year 2017/2018. And only 21 fewer days than the 2017/2018 rain year. 2014/2015 boasts 102 rain days in that year. I think we can safely say that this winter is the wettest since 2014/2015 which was exceptional.
