Wake up!

We were out the gate before 04:45 and crossing the field. A couple of cars in the Grammeno Beach car park indicated the presence of someone somewhere. One car has been parked there for several nights but the other was a newcomer. Charlie had a little bark during the Second Circuit but that was on the Small Beach so I took a diversion for the Third Circuit to avoid that area. Usually, I let Luis, Fido and Oskar off the lead for the final half of that circuit and then we go over the rocks. I should have listened to myself and kept Oskar on for he made a bee-line for the large central rock where someone must have been passing the night. Moments later, there was a barrage of barking so Fido and Luis never got off the lead. I walked on over the rocks to be joined shortly after by Oskar with Charlie on his heels. Oskar is loud and persistent. Charlie has a bit of a bark then moves on. Maybe, whoever it was, will sleep elsewhere tonight.

Skinny and I went off to Kountoura then I went in the sea for a much calmer wallow than yesterday. Little wind and few waves gave a calm sea worth floating around in. Breakfast followed and I let the dogs out of the van as the camping was waking up. I usually let Fido and Obi out first then release Oskar and Luis later. Oskar now spends the day in the compound with SBD and Luis is attached to my chair. I decided to let Luis take control of his destiny but it was only a few minutes before he was leading a posse of Charlie and Fido to bark at the [British] customers camping on the other side of the northern fence. So Luis is back attached to my chair where he spends most of the day lounging in front of the fan cooler. Fido has cottoned on to the fan cooler so has also muscled in on Luis’ domain.

I got a little distracted from what I should have been doing this morning so ended up involved in a little map updating. I usually use Google Maps or Apple Maps but ended up using something which relied on another map product. I also discovered that it’s possible to edit the maps as it’s an opensource project a little like Wikipedia.

The map above is the live version and this one is just an image.

I have designated Àkri Gramméno a nature reserve, hence the green border. I have also added in a footpath as well as corrected some names and enhanced the Grammeno Camping listing information. Houmas restaurant was also missing. I’ve put in Cedar Bay Villas although that changed has not made it to the maps so far.

More fun with the generator which has been on and off all afternoon. I had a quick chat with Μιχάλησ who told me that there was some problem with the electricity not making it as far as the buildings by the entrance. This explains why the power and the generator were up and down like a yoyo. I get a better supply when the generator is on as I’m connected directly to the panel which is fed by the generator. On Grid power, the voltage fluctuates significantly when the kitchen uses larger appliances. They cook with both gas and electricity. I can tell this because my cooling fan slows down when demand is higher. The horrid wire from the roof has been replaced by some shiny hooks and new stainless steel rope. Work still continues on the silencer outside above the toilets. Peter doesn’t care anymore as he’s now down in the place I occupied for my first six months. He’s honoured as vans are generally excluded from the beach area during the high season. I don’t think the camping is as busy as usual.

The kittens have discovered an alternative way to access the storeroom via the carob tree and the window. They came rushing down from the end of the storeroom when I went out to investigate and to feed them. They can climb up and down the tree to access the southern part of the camping so saving the walk around the building and all the people.

My computer advises me it’s 19:00 and the dogs are wandering around nearby so I suppose I’d better take them for a walk. An hour later and my supper is now on. It should hopefully be cooler by the time I come to eat it. I’m not up for much in the way of eating at the present time. The Evening Walk was uneventful and calm. The Swiss/Greek/American motorhome has moved off elsewhere since this morning. There were plenty of people enjoying themselves on Alonáki Beach as well as Gramméno Beach. The car park was reasonably full and Ammos Beach Café seemed to be doing good business. We met no one on the Promontory.

Today’s high is 36.8 and it’s still over 30C at 20:05. The humidity is now falling and soon the sun will set so it should cool down a little.
